There are a whopping 29 weapons to seek out in Resident Evil 4 Remake, and you’ll need to do so if you’re looking to obtain the Gun Fanatic Trophy/Achievement. Many you can purchase or trade for with the Merchant, but some, such as the Red 9, will require you to seek them out during your search for Ashley. This page will tell you where you can obtain the elusive Red 9 Handgun.
Red 9 Handgun¶
If you’ve played Resident Evil 4 previously, or have checked out our Best Handgun page, you’ll know that the Red 9 is a very potent Handgun and one of the best in the game. It may not be as strong as it was in the original Resident Evil 4, the lack of a laser means you’ll need to be more accurate with your shots, but it still packs a mean punch as one of the strongest Handguns in the game.
Thankfully, you won’t have to wait too long to get your hands on it. As you reach Chapter 4 after defeating the Del Lago boss, you’ll have full access to the lake by using the boat. This acts as a hub area for the entirety of Chapter 4 and there are a lot to see and do.
But first, there’s one very important piece of business you should take care of. At the start of the Chapter, get back on the boat at the nearby dock and go out to the center of the lake where you’ll come across a shipwreck.
Dock the boat and get on to it and you’ll come across a chest containing an Alexandrite, one of the Treasures needed for the Bandit Trophy/Achievement. Don’t be too hasty to return to your boat though, go out to the other side of the boat and work your way to the western end to find a second, larger, chest. Open this one to obtain the Red 9!
If you’ve been holding off on upgrading guns to this point of the game and collecting all available Treasures, you should have enough to fully upgrade the Red 9 right now. You’ll have to wait until later before more upgrades become available unfortunately, ultimately unlocking the exclusive upgrade.
Red 9 vs Punisher¶
If this is your first playthrough, odds are you’ve been using the Punisher since it was available back in Chapter 2, and you may be wondering if it’s worth changing to the Red 9? There is no right or wrong answer here, both guns have pros and cons and if you’ve invested heavily in the Punisher, you may wish to stick with it.
The Punisher focuses on piercing enemies and the cost of firepower, whereas the Red 9 is all about firepower, being the strongest in the game, but at the cost of accuracy (you can’t equip a laser) and later, inventory space (the stock takes up a lot of space).
