How to Start the Going Beyond Power Hero Quest¶
This Hero Quest is completely optional, and an easy one to miss unless you’re exploring thoroughly. This is even more crucial as a traversal ability is locked behind this Quest, so it’s in your best interest to complete this Quest as soon as possible. Despite the recommended level being 25, you’ll want to ensure that you’re at least Level 27 for the boss at the end of it.
Once you’re ready, return to the Gura Flava Camp in the Aetia region and make your way north to the icon on the map to trigger a scene and begin this Hero Quest.
Head to Colony Gamma¶
You’ll happen upon Kyrie who seems to have gotten herself in some bother with some Kevesi soldiers. This squad has 6 targets for you to take down, and you’ll want to focus on the Keves Rescuer first so that it doesn’t sit back and heal your other targets. Once the Rescuer is down, focus on the Blocker before finishing off the rest. The difficulty here is the initial onslaught of the whole squad going for your controlled character, after surviving that, the rest of the battle should be routine.
After exchanging words with Kyrie following the battle, she can’t contain her joy at seeing Mio and the rest of the Agnus squad alive and urges them to come back with her to Colony Gamma. It’s a rather linear trek to the northwest to Colony Gamma, and there’s not much to see although do take note of the sand slope just before you reach Colony Gamma, it may be out of reach now, but you’ll soon gain the means to access it.
Once you reach Colony Gamma, you’ll discover that despite your worst fears, the Colony seems rather fine with Noah and co. and there appears to be no hostilities. The Commander, Teach, will also introduce himself at this point, asking to see you later. You can make use of the Colony Gamma Canteen and learn a new recipe for Manana while you’re here or do a spot of shopping, but when you’re ready, speak to the Colony Gamma residents, discuss it at the Canteen and then head to Teach to speak with him.
Head to Teach’s “Good” Place¶
Teach suggests relocating to another place so you can have your clear the air talks, and will join the party once you head to the back of Colony Gamma. Teach’s Thaumaturge Class is a Healer role that focuses more on Buffs, the excellent Divine Protection will place an Armor Veil Field Effect, useful for soaking damage in difficult encounters.
Your journey is not a short one, although it is a linear one. After crossing the Watchpoint Bridge, you’ll come across another of those sand slopes only this time, Teach will show you the way in which you can climb them. Simply put, from this point forward, you can now run up these, opening a lot of exploration opportunities for you going forward. Continue along the path to Coolley Pool and you’ll trigger a scene. Make use of the Rest Spot after and then head south to finally reach your destination.
How to Beat Inscrutable Teach¶
Teach is Level 26 but don’t expect a complete pushover just because he is a Healer. The Thaumaturge Class feels more like an Attack/Healer hybrid so he can still pack a punch. The good news is, you don’t need to fully defeat Teach, just bring him down to his Enrage and the battle will end. Still, there are a few Arts you should be mindful of, and you can learn more about them below:
-
Furious Flash: Teach will strike a single target, dealing moderate damage and possibly inflicting the Bind debuff.
-
Rank Splitter: Teach will twirl his staff, striking a single target for moderate damage and healing himself for around 1000~ HP.
-
Demise Thrust: Teach will strike a single target for major damage and the chance to inflict the Burst debuff.
-
Profound Strength: Teach swirls his staff around his head, granting him the Awakening and Pause Buff Timer buffs. This will allow him to keep his buffs active for a prolonged time.
-
Divine Protection: Teach will buff himself with the Armor Veil buff that will absorb a fixed amount of damage.
It’s a good thing that you only need to take Teach down to half HP, as he has the tools to make this a prolonged battle. Profound Strength is the guilty party here, this will make it so his buffs will stay on him longer and it will grant him Awakening at the same time, which improves his Attack, Defense, and Recharge rate.
Outside of that, Demise Thrust, his Talent Art, can deal a lot of damage if it strikes a non-Tank character although he’ll use this rarely. Instead, you’ll be dealing with Furious Flash the most, which despite dealing moderate damage, can inflict the Bind debuff.
Your best bet for this battle is to not give Teach the chance to heal or buff himself more than is necessary. For that reason, unleash your Chain Attack as soon as it’s ready, you only need to get him down to half HP so it’s senseless waiting to use it. Once you bring him down to half HP, the battle will end, and another will soon begin!
