Xenoblade Chronicles 3

Boss Fight: Ghondor

By
Ben Chard

This is a guide for the Ghondor boss fight in Chapter 5 of Xenoblade Chronicles 3, taking place in Li Garte Prison.

Ghondor is a boss in chapter 5 of Xenoblade Chronicles 3.

How to Beat Ghondor

Name Level Type
Ghondor 47 tile005.png
Aggy 45 tile005.png
Oggy 45 tile005.png

The party finally runs into their target at the prison, Ghondor, but it looks like you’re not going to get any answers without proving your strength first to the foul-mouthed Ghondor. She’ll be flanked by her underlings, Aggy and Iggy who are both two levels lower than her. Both Aggy and Oggy are Attackers, so it doesn’t matter which one you focus on first, so long as the whole party is attacking them.

Focus on taking down Aggy and Oggy first.

Aggy has the ability to cause break with Windguard while Oggy’s Arts tend to deal more damage, but he has less HP than Aggy. With that in mind, Oggy is usually the better target first but the order in which you dispatch these underlings matters little. Additionally, beware that you have no access to Interlink in the prison while you attempt to keep up your ruse.

Once Aggy and Oggy are down, you can focus on Ghondor herself, and you can learn all about her Arts below:

  • Comet Punch: This will increase Ghondor’s evasion and allow her to follow-up with a Critical Hit, dealing moderate damage in an AoE.
  • Detonating Hit: Ghondor will lean back and perform a heavy punch, dealing moderate damage and a chance to inflict Daze to a single target.
  • Jackal Claw: Ghondor will punch a single target with a high Critical Rate, dealing moderate to major damage.
  • Focus: Ghondor gathers her strength, granting her increased Arts Recharge speed and quicker auto-attacks.
  • Raging Force: Ghondor gathers her strength and goes for a high impact punch, dealing moderate to major damage.
  • Rampaging Fists: Ghondor strikes out at a single target, dealing moderate damage.

Ghondor can pack a mean punch (no pun intended) but is more than manageable on her own. You’ll have to be a bit more careful than usual since you don’t have Interlinks to fall back on to take some of the damage for you and it also means you won’t have access to Liberty Wing for emergency revivals.

With that in mind, if you did Fiona’s Hero Quest earlier in the chapter, be sure to bring her (or someone as a Signifier) along for the battle, the buffs are incredible powerful and will make the battle against Ghondor much easier.

All of her Arts are physical based and the majority of them are simple punches that deal moderate damage to your Tanks. Comet Punch is one of the exceptions, this will cause AoE damage around her, this can really hurt once she’s Enraged and starts chaining her Arts together. You’ll want to try and Break her when she tries to use Focus too as this will increase her already fast auto-attack and allow her to use Arts more often, a deadly combo.

(1 of 2) Comet Punch is an AoE Art

Comet Punch is an AoE Art (left), while Raging Force can scale to deal massive damage. (right)

Ghondor’s other Art to watch out for is Raging Force, this is an Art whose damage can scale, but if you’re unfortunate and it scales on the high end, it can deal massive damage so try to ensure your Tanks have aggro at all times. Try to save a Chain Attack for when Ghondor becomes Enraged, the increased attack power and speed that generally comes with that is dangerous on someone like Ghondor who is already incredibly agile.

Once you take her down, you’ll finally get a chance to speak with her before your prison adventure begins in earnest.
