Animal Crossing: New Horizons

What's New in the ACNH Version 2.0 Update

By
Staci Miller

On November 5th, Animal Crossing: New Horizons is releasing both a paid DLC and free update. The version 2.0 update is the first free major update that Nintendo is giving players, and with it comes a lot of new content.

Here’s what to expect.

Brewster’s Cafe: The Roost

The Roost, a museum expansion, opens for business. It’s a coffee shop owned by Brewster the pigeon.

Your coffee will cost 200 bells at The Roost.

You can sip on your own or enjoy with visitors or your fellow villagers. Residents like Isabella will pop in from time to time too. Head over to our guide on how to unlock Brewster for more information.

Gyroids

When the update launches, you’ll be able to dig up gyroids around the island! You’ll be able to plant and water them to get more.

The spots they can be found look just the spots you dig up fossils at.

Nintendo has said they can change to match the atmosphere, and there should be plenty of customization options available for them. They play unique sounds when you dig them up.

Kapp’n’s Boat Tours

Now, you’ll be able to see more of the water life surrounding your island by taking a boat tour. He’ll transport you to remote islands with things you’ve never seen before.

Apparently, you can enjoy a song along the way.

Nintendo has promised new fauna, as well as islands that might currently be experiencing a different season than your own. These are some features that can’t be found by using the airport to fly to remote islands.

Harv’s Island Collective

If you’re bored of Harv’s Island, then you’ll be pleased to know it’s getting a renovation in the free update. There are going to be some shops on the island to create an open market for players to enjoy.

You’ll have to spend bells to unlock some of these.

Redd, Saharah, and Kicks are all confirmed to have shops here, so there’s no need to wait on them dropping by your island anymore. You can also meet Harriet to get some different hairstyles and find customization options that aren’t available at your DIY workbench.

Nintendo has promised you can have your fortune of the day read by Katrina too!

Other Updates

As well as all of these other major changes to gameplay, Nintendo has promised some minor updates to make the experience of the game more enjoyable for those who have been playing for a long time.

These include:

  • Pro Decorating License to add more customisation options to decorating your home!
  • More home storage for those who have run out
  • Group stretching activities at the plaza with your visitors
  • Ordinances established by you, such as making all of your villagers get up at a certain time or slowing down the rate at which weeds grow on the island
  • New furniture at Nook’s Cranny
  • Cooking DIY recipes

All of the villagers can join in on stretching - and the residents too.

There are sure to be other minor things in the update that make island life more convenient too. The bigger updates combined with the smaller fixes mean that if you’ve been playing for hundreds of hours, your island life will feel refreshed and you’ll finally have new things to explore.
