Alongside our regular dose of CoD modes, Modern Warfare II has spiced things up a lot with the introduction of more modes such as the Third-Person Moshpit and, what we are looking at here, Invasion mode.
Rather than small, tight battle spaces for Call of Duty multiplayers to race through, Invasion sets you on one of several large maps in a team of 20v20 but that’s not everything. You may have jumped into your first Invasion and noticed that some hits gain you fewer points. That is because to pack the battlefield out further, each side has an additional 20 AI (bot) soldiers, meaning there are 80 Operators on the battlefield at any one time.
MW2 Invasion Scoring¶
Killing an AI soldier will give you 1 point - presumably because they are easier to pick off and have a tendency to stand there looking stupid, or charge blindly into a stream of gunfire.
Taking out a fellow human player, however, will score you five points and bag a little extra XP, especially if you one-shot them. Now some human players are equally stupid and stand there, or charge blindly into streams of gunfire too, but they are still worth more points.
Your kills in each round aren’t recorded as such, rather you will get a points tally. Your deaths are still added up though and you will still receive a KD for the battle.
Each game is scored as a first to 1500 points and has a time limit of 20 minutes. In reality, most games seem to end around the 15-minute mark as one side or the other will have hit the milestone by that point.
MW2 Invasion Maps¶
As noted at the start the maps in Invasion are considerably bigger than you are used to in CoD, and begin by setting bother teams at opposite ends. What generally happens is there is a rush forward to try to claim the middle ground. There are generally good high points to be had in the middle if you can get there first.
Snipers are well catered for by plenty of vantage points that offer just enough cover to stay safe, but not quite enough so you can camp the entire round. Ladders up to the points tend to be behind the vantage point meaning if you get flanked without knowing a bad guy could climb the ladder and finish you off just as you are lining up that perfect headshot a mile away.
MW2 Invasion Tips and Tricks¶
This depends on how you are intending to play the game. If you assume an infantry role and like to get stuck in, charging into the action with an SMG, stick close to cover. There will be plenty of snipers looking for opportunities to hit you in open ground. Also listen up for alerts for enemy UAV or mortar attacks, even Cruise Missiles, and move quickly. If you stay in the same spot for too long, it won’t be long before you get bombarded by some form of artillery assault.
If sniping is your forte you are well covered in Invasion. Don’t be tempted to bound up the first ladder you see, there are always more advantageous high points further into the map that gives you a better chance of more action. Staying at the back may keep you safer, but your kill opportunities will be more limited.
Remember that enemy snipers will be scouring the rooftops for you too and your scope gives away a tell-tale glint. Stay crouched behind cover and bob up, scan and down again quickly. Look for glints from enemy snipers and if all looks safe look for movement on the road next. Never ever keep getting up and down in the same place. Inexperienced snipers will bead on where your glint last was, so if your head becomes visible again they can just pop off a shot. Move a distance left or right, the further the better, every single time you pop up. Keep your bearings so you can scan the same location. If you spotted a glint as you hit cover when you pop up further down the wall there is a good chance they are still waiting for you to come back up in the same place. Headshot time and you can crouch down again and imagine the barrage of swearing that is going on in your enemy’s games room at that moment.
MW2 Best Loadouts For Invasion¶
There isn’t really such a thing as the best loadout. We could tell you to mod your weapons with all the best attachments, but, in reality, you probably won’t have unlocked everything yet.
Invasion is a game where quickly moving between locations is essential, so try to concentrate on attachments that don’t reduce your sprint speed. Any improvement to your Aim Down Sight timing is welcome too as on occasion you may have just milliseconds to react.
