Camos are one of the biggest personal progressions systems in Call of Duty, dating back to MW (2007). It’s one of the more important ways of saying you mastered a weapon, (or lied about “hacked XP boost lobbies” in exchange for headshots). In MW2 2022, weapon camos are back, and you have some spicy weapon camos you can earn through your weapons and account.

MW2 Camo Challenges and Tiers Explained¶
The important thing you need to know is there are five tiers of Camo challenge rewards in MW2, each with its own rules and challenges to advance their weapon camo status: These are

| Base | Base camos are awarded per their associated weapon base challenge. Base weapon challenges range from 1-4 challenges, depending on the weapon. |
| Gold | Once you complete the base weapon camo challenges for a gun, you then unlock gold camo for it. |
| Platinum | To then get Platinum, you need to get a certain number of gold camos within a weapon category, such as X amount of gold camos in SMGs. |
| Polyatomic | You need to unlock 51 platinum weapon camos to then start progressing through Polyatomic weapon challenges, similar to base challenges but harder. |
| Orion | The Orion camo will automatically unlock when you get your hands on 51 Polyatomic weapons camos. |
How MW2 Weapon Camo Challenges Work¶
The main Modern Warfare 2 camo challenge system works by typically offering a few challenges per weapon. These are known as base camo challenges. Infinity Ward state there will be around 180 base camo challenges at launch. These base weapon camo challenges can be anything from killing a certain amount of enemies without reloading, to securing so many long shots, get triple kills, or simply get so many kills with the weapon, and many more. The amount of base weapon challenges and challenge criteria differ per weapon. The weapon challenges also dont unlck untill your reach certain levels with the weapon.
You need to level up your gun and unlock the weapon challenges before completing them to unlock gold camo.
To get your hands on them, you will need to break away from the meta builds and try something new. Here are some hypothetical examples: Perhaps you’re going to need to put on the biggest magazine the gun has to offer to make getting the challenge easier, or maybe you need to start adding some lazer sights to your sniper rifles for those hip-fire sniper moments? This is all speculation as to what these weapon challenges are until the MW2 multiplayer is live, but you can get the gist of what the devs want you to do. It means you can truly master a weapon and the various playstyles you’ll need to learn for each weapon before you can call yourself a master.
Once you complete all the basic challenges for a weapon, you will unlock the Gold for that weapon. Then you can check how many golds you need in a weapon category type before you get to the platinum for those weapons. Once Plat is unlocked, you will get new, difficult challenges for that weapon to advance to Polyatomic. Expect to once again need to adjust your weapon build and playstyle before you can complete it. You will need to do this across 51 weapons in multiplayer to then get your hands on the Orion weapon camo for those weapons.
Once again, the challenges are different for every weapon, so if there’s a weapon you want to progress, check in-game, as explaining them all will make this go on forever. Good luck getting your MW2 weapon camo challenges complete! Just don’t fail to boost lobbies like MW2 2009, because with these challenges, they are probably coming back.
