MW2 has returned to the days of Modern Warfare (2007) with the M16 burst-fire assault rifle back on the menu. If you got your hands on the weapon in the beta, you’d have felt its closer range, one-hit burst, and two-hit burst at medium ranges. But if you didn’t get a chance to play the beta, here’s the best M16 class setup in MW2, along with the best loadout, perks, attachments and other important details.

Best M16 loadout in MW2¶
The best M16 loadout in MW2 will require players to control their recoil and have great ADS speed. You don’t want your recoil to make your rounds whiff, as the burst fire nature means you need to land those three hits; otherwise, it can spell disaster. The other thing you want is ADS speed, as ADS means you can get to precision aiming with your burst fire. This is key to winning fights, as the M16 is all about ADS and landing quick burst kills. Therefore, both aspects of the M16 build are just as important. To make the most optimal build, you will need the best M16 attachments, which are:
- Muzzle: Forge Tac Castle Comp
- Underbarrel: FSS Sharkfin or Pineapple.
- Rear Grip: Sakin ZX Grip
- Stock: Ordnance Ravage- 8
- Optic: Preference
These five attachments make the best M16 loadout in MW2 due to the combination of recoil control and ADS improvements. The muzzle and rear grip both add bonus recoil control, which is good for that ADS experience. Meanwhile, the Stock and Sharkfin improve your ADS control. The stock also costs you some recoil control, but that’s fine since two attachments still provide you with a sizeable bonus to recoil control. You can also opt for the Pineapple for even more addded recoil, especially to support your movement. You also get some of your movement speed back too, which is nice for general map movement, compared to the Demo Fade Stock.
We recommend an optic of your choice. The gun is about precision burst aiming, so a scope you feel comfortable with, especially for those short-to-medium range fights. Don’t go for a very magnified scope, as the weapon takes around two bursts at medium range and isn’t effective at longer range. Plus, the gun’s recoil will feel awful at long distances.
Best M16 Class in MW2¶
Now we are onto the bigger picture with the best M16 class setup in MW2. You will want to make the class benefit your playstyle. So, to do that, we recommend the following equipment.
- Secondary: X13 Auto
- Tactical: Flash or Stuns
- Lethal: Semtex
- Field Upgrade: Dead Silence
The X13 Auto is a solid secondary weapon. It provides that close-range burst, solid hipe-fire or ADS rate of fire you need in those precious close-range fights when your M16 isn’t up to scratch.
Meanwhile, the tactical of choice is the flash or stuns. The reason is that flashes are decent for blinding enemies in close-range pushes. Having an enemy blind, especially SMG players, allows your ADS to be more effective in close range. Stuns are also effective too, as making an enemy player’s aim worse while you line up your ADS helps in a similar, yet different way that flashes do.
Your lethal should be the Semtex. It’s generally a more responsive lethal, useful for clearing objectives or camper spots when needed. If they don’t die from the explosion, they come running straight into your ADS instead.
Lastly, the Field Upgrade is Dead Silence. Dead Silence is a versatile option for M16 players, as it masks when you’re on the move. It allows you to flank, retreat or do whatever you need to do with ease.
This is a general round-up for the best M16 class in MW2. If there’s a certain game mode or role you like playing, then feel free to adapt your class setup to suit that play style.
Best M16 perks in MW2¶
Now it’s time for the best M16 Perks in MW2. The best perks for the M16 are as follows:
- Basic Perk 1: Scavenger
- Basic Perk 2: Battle Hardened
- Bonus Perk: Resupply or Hardline
- Ultimate Perk: Quick Fix
The two starting perks you want are Scavenger and Battle Hardened. The reason for this is that Scavenger allows you to keep getting more ammo, allowing you to wrack up that kill streak. The other valuable perk is Battle Hardened, flashing is the meta, and you rely on clean ADS vision to one hit burst. Reducing those flash durations can make the difference between life and death in certain circumstances.
The bonus perk is Resupply or Hardline. With Quick Fix swapping with Hardline from the beta, you now need to get to that important health regen faster by earning score. So, one of the better ways to do this is by getting Resupply, which gives you one extra lethal, and your equipment recharges faster too. That extra grenade offers another site or room flush, bagging you more points. You can also go Hardline and use a Counter UAV in your killstreak list, since you don’t have access to Ghost and want to reduce enemy visibility as much as possible.
Your ultimate perk is Quick Fix. The M16’s burst fire allows players to regenerate health so incredibly effectively it is important. This makes a burst-fire tanky god in the final moments of the match. The downside is you now lose Ghost, so you need to watch your flank a little more with the UAV spam. The extra grenade should also come in handy for that if you go Resupply, as will Hardline by making it easier to acquire on shorter streaks.
This concludes the best M16 class and loadout in MW2. Good luck getting those big burst fire rounds off and shredding your opponents.
