This page explains how to obtain and share Egg Moves in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl (BDSP).
Egg Moves are moves that a Pokémon typically cannot learn when they Level Up, evolve or even from TMs. Instead, as their name implies, the main way to obtain these moves is from breeding (when the Pokémon hatches from an egg).
Obtaining Egg Moves¶
By Breeding¶
The traditional way of getting Egg Moves is by breeding. Each Pokémon has a list of egg moves they can potentially inherit from their parents. So you can simply look for parents that currently know these moves, then breed them.
For example, one of Feebas’s Egg Moves is Hypnosis. Out of all its possible breeding partners, the Poliwag line is capable of learning Hypnosis. Thus you can breed a male member of the Poliwag line that has Hypnosis with a female Feebas or Milotic.
In some cases, none of the Pokémon’s breeding partners can learn the Egg Move you want. Instead, you’ll have to chain breed until a breeding partner has the Egg Move. For example, one of Eevee’s Egg Moves is Wish, but none of its partners know it. However, the Pikachu line (which can breed with Eevee) can inherit Wish by breeding with the Togepi line.
Via the Grand Underground¶
In Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, there’s another way to obtain Egg Moves. When exploring the Hideaways in the Grand Underground, there’s a decent chance the wild Pokémon you encounter will have a random Egg Move as its first move.
If you’re dedicated, you could go around catching multiples of the same Pokémon, in hopes of finding the Egg Move(s) that you want.
Sharing Egg Moves¶
Introduced in Pokémon Sword and Shield, if you leave two Pokémon of the exact same species (Pokédex Number) with the Pokémon Nursery, the two Pokémon will share their Egg Moves with each other. It doesn’t matter what gender the Pokémon are. However, they must have space to learn the move(s).
By the way, the process isn’t instant. So you may have to run around for a while, before the Pokémon finish teaching each other their move(s).
Sharing egg moves is useful for many reasons, such as consolidating egg moves to a single parent to streamline breeding or to give Pokémon you caught in the wild (such as shiny Pokémon) egg moves.
