This page lists the benefits of using the Poké Radar in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl (BDSP).
First and foremost, the Poké Radar is a fantastic way of catching many of the same Pokémon, especially if they’re rare Pokémon. For example, if you’re lucky and encounter an Eevee with the Poké Radar (at the Trophy Garden), you can potentially catch a whole bunch of them.
Besides that, there are some not-so-obvious perks too.
Poké Radar Exclusive Pokémon¶
As mentioned, some Pokémon species can only be encountered with the Poké Radar, although they may also appear in the Grand Underground.
Please refer to our Poké Radar Exclusive Pokémon page for the full list.
Hidden Ability¶
There is a 1 in 128 chance that the Pokémon you encounter will have their Hidden Ability. When this occurs, the shaking grass will be noticeably different, with larger blades of grass flying around.
Perfect IVs¶
If your chain is high enough, some of the Pokémon you encounter may have a minimum number of perfect IVs. At the time of writing, the way this works is incredibly flawed–and it’s hard to believe it’s not a mistake.
Only at very specific thresholds, will Pokémon have any guaranteed perfect IVs; everything in-between will have no guaranteed perfect IVs.
Chain Length | Guaranteed Perfect IVs |
---|---|
20 | 1 |
30 | 2 |
40 | 3 |
100 | 5 |
That means everything from 21 to 29, 31 to 39 and 41 to 99 will have the same amount of perfect IVs as any old Pokémon.
By the way, if you’re salivating at the 5 guaranteed perfect IVs for a chain of 100, know that it’s next to impossible to get a chain that long, as we’ll discuss later.
Shiny Pokémon¶
The higher the chain length, the more likely you’ll encounter Shiny Pokémon. This only applies to the Pokémon you’re chaining. If a Shiny Pokémon appears, the shaking grass will sparkle continuously.
The boost to the shiny rate goes up incrementally the higher your chain, capping at a chain length of 40. At this point, you’ll have a 1 in 99 chance of encountering a shiny, up from 1 in 4096. However, you must be exceptionally lucky to keep your chain going this long.
