As you emerge from the mine, there’s a sign post just above. Go behind the sign post and pick up the Amulet Coin hiding behind there. This hold item doubles your prize money if a Pokémon holding it participates in the battle once. Next, go through the tall grass on the left. When you reach the section where the grass stops, search besides the rock for a hidden PP Up.
Carefully go south. Along the left, there’s a woman getting ready for a battle. If you keep your distance, it’s possible to go around her without fighting. Otherwise, equip your Amulet Coin and give her what for!
Madame Caroline¶
Caroline leads with a pretty underwhelming Yamper. Crush it with a Ground-type if you have one. Next is Swoobat, an evolved Woobat. It’s still weak to Electric, Rock, Ice, Ghost and Dark, but it’s noticeably faster.
Anyway, step into the tall grass along the bottom. Head for the space where no grass has grown and pick up the 3 Great Balls sitting there. Moving on, make your way west. You’ll run into a policeman scouting around. It wasn’t us, we swear!
Police Officer Raymond¶
Pokémon | Level | Type |
---|---|---|
Growlithe | 23 | Fire |
Of course, Raymond has a police dog. Growlithe is a regular Fire-type, so try to hit it with your Water, Rock or Ground-types. Be wary of its Intimidate ability, which lowers your Pokémon’s Attack stat.
Further west is another bridge spanning the Wild Area. Feel free to get on your bike, if you’re not already riding it. Like the bridge from before, you can find random feather items on the floor. On the other side, you’ll arrive at Motostoke. Go and check in at one of the Pokémon Centres, if your Pokémon need healing etc. Afterwards, go to the Budew Drop Inn, which is west from the stadium.
When you arrive at the inn, Marnie will come to greet you. She’ll then request a battle with you; if you want a good night’s sleep, you’ve no choice but to accept.
Pokémon Trainer Marnie¶
Marnie leads with Croagunk. This shifty Pokémon takes quadruple damage from Psychic and double damage from Flying and Ground. Don’t use Water moves because it has Dry Skin.
Next can be Scraggy, who looks like it has trouble keeping its pants on. Fairy moves inflict quadruple damage, while Fighting and Flying deal a respectable double damage.
Finally, her signature Pokémon is Morpeko. It’s weak to Ground, Fighting, Bug and Fairy. Every turn, it will alternate between its default “Full Belly Mode” and its angry-looking “Hangry Mode”. Right now, this is merely an aesthetic change.
Show Marnie who’s boss and she’ll leave you alone for the night. The next day, she’ll come and give you Kabu’s League Card, as well as 2 Burn Heals. When you’re ready to move on, exit the inn and head east towards Motostoke Stadium. It’s where you went to participate in the Gym Challenge opening ceremony. Hop will be waiting in front of the entrance.
