Punishing Foes are challenging, completely optional bosses that can be found while exploring the game’s worlds, and are tougher than normal encounters. This page will give details on the Punishing Foe, Oyamatsumi.
Where to find Oyamatsumi¶
Oyamatsumi is the first Punishing Foe you came across in the game, and is actually a part of The Search for Oyamatsumi quest. As such, it is recommended that you have the quest logged before going after the Punishing Foe, just to make sure that you get the quest item it drops.
Oyamatsumi is located in the Minato region and is right on the main path. Teleport to the Shiba Leyline and northwest of it, you will find Oyamatsumi up a little hill, right out in the open.

While Oyamatsumi is the first Punishing Foe you will meet in the game, you actually won’t be able to defeat it until you’re well close to finish the third region. Oyamatsumi is both strong and durable, with high Strength and Vitality. It will resist both Ice and Electric, while being immune to Dark, and with a weakness to Fire. That means you will want to bring along demons that have access to Fire skills, whether it’s Agilao or Fire Dracostrike. Oyamatsumi has two Ice skills in the skillset, Ice Dracostrike and Mabufudyne, although the latter is only used whenever it charges for its Magatsuhi. Despite that, though, you won’t want anyone weak to Ice.
Oyamatsumi is mostly built for Strength-based attacks, though, of which it has two Physical moves. Beatdown hits a single character and is at its strongest when the enemy has more HP. That means as you whittle away at Oyamatsumi’s health, Beatdown will gradually get weaker. The other Physical attack, Crusher Onslaught, hits the entire party, but it has an inherent low accuracy. That means, you can use Sukunda on the boss and Masukukaja on your team to make that move miss more often. Oyamatsumi has no way of removing the debuffs on it, as well as the buffs on your party, so you are free to use whatever you want.
One thing you have to be careful of in this battle is that Oyamatsumi has access to Tarukaja. That means his attacks will deal more damage, so you want to counter this with Tarunda as soon as possible. In fact, all three debuffs can play a huge role in this battle, and since Oyamatsumi can do nothing about them, you should be using them to full effect. As long as you keep it debuffed, you really shouldn’t have too much trouble with this battle.
