Shin Megami Tensei V

The Demon of the Spring

By
Matt Chard

The Demon of the Spring is a follow-up Subquest to The Cursed Mermaids in Shin Megami Tensei V. Most Subquests will reward you with a large amount of experience, some Macca, and then you’ll receive an item of sorts. Most of the time, it’ll be a Talisman which allows you to have access to the different Magatsuhi skills in the game.

Anahita will agree to lift the curse…providing you do a favor for her.

Recommended Level Location Rewards
15+ Mermaid, south of the Hamamatsucho Leyine. Femme Talisman, Anahita available for fusion.

Enlist the help of Anahita to lift the Mermaid’s curse. Anahita supposedly appears at the source of the water at the mountain peak.

How to start The Demon of the Spring

In order to start this Subquest, teleport to the Hamamatsucho Leyline, and head south, under the bridge, into the cave with the Azumis. The Mermaid can be found at the back of the cave. It seems that a curse has been put on her fellow mermaids in the mountains, and she asks if you can help her out. This quest is a follow-up of The Cursed Mermaids.

Head south from the Hamamatsucho Leyline, under the bridge, into the cave to find The Demon of the Spring quest.

Where to find The Demon of the Spring

(1 of 2) The Kamiyacho Leyline is directly north of the Tokyo Tower Leyline.

Far to the north of the Tokyo Tower Leyline, you’ll find the Kamiyacho Leyline. From there, you want to take the eastern path and follow it around until you find the Onarimon Leyline. This area is optional, but there are a few Subquests around here as well as other goodies, including Anahita. When you get to the Onarimon Leyline, exit the area to the south, and follow it around until you reach an open area.

From there, turn to your right, and go up the sand ramp until you reach the top. If you turn to the south, you’ll notice a rocky platform which leads south. When you get to the end, jump off to the southern path, and follow it all the way south until you reach the water. Here, you’ll see Anahita, speak to her, and after a short scene, she’ll agree to help you, providing you do a favor for her, a battle.

Anahita will mainly use either a group Ice attack or a group Light attack, and she is weak to Fire, and Electric. Take Angel for his Humble Blessing healing skill as well as his resistance to Light, and Mokoi for his Zio skill whilst not being weak to either Ice or Light. Finally, take Aitvaras who you can recruit near the Onarimon Leyline providing you’re level 17 as his Mirage Shot is strong for this battle, but make sure to guard on his last turn as he is weak to Ice.

Start the battle by using the Magatsuhi skill Omagatoki Critical if it’s available, if not, use it when you start a new turn. With Nahobino, use either Zio or Agi if you have it, otherwise use Aramasa. Mokoi should be using Zio on every turn. For Aitvaras, cast Mirage Shot, or guard if it’s his last turn, and finally, for Angel, cast Hama, or Agi/Zio if you have it when he isn’t healing.

Anahita does a fair bit of group damage, which needs to be healed up the following turn with Angel’s Humble Blessing. If she uses her Magatsuhi skill, heal up, then guard with as many people as you can to negate some damage as this will hurt. With Anahita down, you’ll finally rid the curse from the Mermaids. Head back to the Mermaid who gave you the quest, south of Hamamatsucho, and tell her the great news!
