Punishing Foes are challenging, completely optional bosses that can be found while exploring the game’s worlds, and are tougher than normal encounters. This page will give details on the Punishing Foe, Zouchouten.
Where to Find Zouchouten¶
You will be able to find Zouchouten in the South Shinagawa area. First, teleport to the North Shinagawa Leyline, then head south and look for the hill that you can use to climb up to the mountainous portion of South Shinagawa. You will know you’re in the right area by a Basilisk with two Black Oozes blocking the way. If you continue past them, you will come to a group of Black Oozes and right beyond them will be a spot where you can drop off to a lower area. Do that, then drop off once more to the west to find Zouchouten.

Zouchouten is a Punishing Foe that is more physical than anything else, so you might have a little trouble preparing for the battle before you fight him. While there are demons that resist Physical you could get, they most likely might be outclassed at this point, so your best bet is to ignore that aspect (other than putting something on Nahobino) and concentrate on dropping Zouchouten as quickly as possible. With that being said, Zouchouten is weak to Force, so you will want demons with high Magic stats and are great with that element. For example, there is Jatayu, but you will want to give him a single target Force skill, as he only comes with Mazanma; he does get Force Pieroma to give those an extra punch, though.
Zouchouten will like to buff up his own attack with Tarukaja, so you should be countering this with Tarunda. Likewise, he also has Charge, meaning he will likely pair this with Fatal Sword. The fact Fatal Sword has a high chance to be a critical means it could potentially put weaker demons in the red or just outright kill them in a single hit. You will also see Zouchouten use Dormina, which has a chance to put a single character to sleep. This isn’t too bad since it’s on a single character, but heal this as soon as possible. The only time you’ll see Mazionga is when Zouchouten charges his Magatsuhi, so you can easily block this with an Elec Dampener.
