Holding the Line is a Subquest in Shin Megami Tensei V. Most Subquests will reward you with a large amount of experience, some Macca, and then you’ll receive an item of sorts. Most of the time, it’ll be a Talisman which allows you to have access to the different Magatsuhi skills in the game.

Eliminate the Lilim that have set their sights on invading Tokyo.
How to start Holding the Line¶
In order to start this Subquest, teleport to the Shinagawa Pier Leyline. From the Leyline, head north, hugging the warehouses (don’t go in them) to your right. About halfway up, you’ll be able to head east in-between two sets of warehouses. Follow the path south until you can turn east again, and you’ll see a dilapidated road with some Berith on it.
Run past them to the east, and continue on until you see a bunch of containers to your right, with a couple of Lamias in front of them. Just before the Lamia, you will notice you can go in-between the containers, this is where you’ll find Principality. If you have the “Those Seeking Sanctuary” already accepted, you’ll need to choose the option to “Talk to him” which’ll give you the option to accept his quest instead. In his eyes, the Lilim are planning on invading Tokyo, and he wants you to quell their plan before it even gets started.
Principality or Lilim¶
Lilim will give you access to some decent Electric skills, which is helpful against one of the main bosses in this area, but you can get them elsewhere. Principality has access to the Magatsuhi skill Sea of Stars which replenishes the parties MP which can come in clutch. For this reason, we recommend Principality, although you can’t go wrong with either.
Where to find Lilim¶
Teleport to the Shinagawa Pier Leyline. Head west as soon as you can, and go in-between the containers. When you’ve gone past them, turn west again, and you’ll notice two vending machines resting up against a dilapidated building. Hug the building, and turn west, then south, and you’ll see several Lilim secluded in the remnants of the building. Head over to the main Lilim and choose the option to “Support the other side” if you have already accepted her quest. In her eyes, she wants to go to Tokyo to live with the Humans, only taking enough energy to survive, with guarantees that they won’t kill anyone.

Ame-no-Uzume | |
Koropokkur | |
Jack Frost |
For your party, you’ll need demons who can cast Bufu/Mabufu whilst not being weak to Electric. Jack Frost is a must-have demon for this fight for this exact reason. You can also recruit him in this area, so there’s no reason not to have him. For your next demon, bring along Koropokkur. Once again, he’s not weak to Electric, and has access to Bufu/Mabufu. Finally, take Ame-no-Uzume as your healer as she nullifies Electric, making the enemies lose two turns every time she is hit with it.
This can be overwhelming at first, as most likely this’ll be your first battle with six demons at one time. The Lilim are level 32, and they predominantly cast Electric skills so make sure no-one is weak to that, or if they are, guard with them on your last turn to avoid giving them another turn. They can also cast Marin Karin, which can charm you. If this happens, use an Amrita Soda or the skill Patra to remove it. They are weak to Ice, which is how you take them down.
When you start the battle, use the Magatsuhi skill Omagatoki Critical if you have it available, if not, use it when you start a full turn. Jack Frost should be using Ice Breath when there is more than one enemy up, Jack Bufula when there is only one left. Koropokkur should be using Mabufu or Bufu for the same reasons above. Finally, Ame-no-Uzume should be mainly healing, but you can use Hama if everyone is full. With this party, this should be a cakewalk, and they’ll go down in no time. With the battle over, head back to Principality, and tell him the good news, and the quest will finish.
