Aogami Type-7 Essence |
You will be starting at the Ose NPC here, but if you don’t know where that is, begin from the Mansei Bridge Leyline. Head north-northwest and slide down the sloped hill, where you will find some climbing blocks. Go up the one and you should find the Ose NPC right there. Carefully make your way across the derailed train and onto the tracks, then follow those until you reach the land. As soon as you do, head underneath the tracks and to the southeast corner there, where you will find Miman #140 by a rock. As you venture north, past the Ose, you will be stopped, assuming you’ve started The Path to Myojin Forest quest.
This is where the Hua Po wanted you to take her, so she will hand over your reward, a Silky’s Essence, then stop being your Navigator. Of course, simply speak to her again to get her to follow you once more, at no charge or anything. Directly east of where she stopped, drop off to the lower section and open the Treasure Box there for an Aogami Type-7 Essence. This one will grant you the Wrath Tempest Physical skill, which can be nice for those with a Physical build. On the higher ledge, right by the Hua Po, there will be the Kanda-no-Yashiro Leyline, so go ahead and register it.
Run to the end of the path to meet some demons, who are arguing about the other demons who have encroached on their land and how they were going to deal with them. After a conversation with them (choose the answers you want), they will hand over the Akiha-Gongen Talisman, which will allow you to get through the wall of fire in Awajicho. Once you’re done, go to the east of them to find Miman #141 on the rocks behind them. To the south of the NPCs, there are some climbing blocks, which just lead to some vending machines.
Preparing for Surt¶
The next thing you will be doing is fighting Surt, the next boss that is behind the giant wall of fire. Naturally, the majority of his moves will be Fire-based, so having protection against that will make the battle a lot easier on yourself. You will also want Ice attacks in your group, since Surt is weak to it. If you can manage to fuse Lahmu (special fusion of Naga Raja, Forneus, and Black Ooze) and get Resist Fire on him (Picasa or Naga), then he would make a fantastic addition, as he naturally gets Bufudyne.
Whenever you’re ready, teleport back to the Awajicho Leyline, approach the wall of flames and get ready for the boss fight.
Boss: Surt¶
Icon | Name | Lv | Weakness |
---|---|---|---|
Surt | 49 |
Type | Skill | Effect |
---|---|---|
Heat Wave +4 | Weak Physical attack to all foes. | |
Fire Dracostrike +6 | Medium Fire Strength-based attack to 1 foe. | |
Maragidyne +6 | Heavy Fire attack to all foes. | |
Ragnarok +6 | Medium 2~5 Fire attacks to random foes. | |
Dekunda | Negates status debuff effects on all allies. | |
Counter | Chance to counter Strength-based attacks with a weak Phys attack. | |
Agilao +6 | Medium Fire attack to 1 foe. | |
Maragi +6 | Weak Fire attack to all foes. |
As you can see from the skillset above, the majority of the attacking skills Surt has are Fire-based. That means if you have protection from Fire (either Block or Resist), then this battle will go a lot smoother for you. The only one you don’t need to worry about is Maragidyne, as that is reserved for when Surt charges his Magatsuhi. The only non-Fire skill in his arsenal is Heat Wave, which is a weak Physical attack to the entire party, but considering Surt has a decent Strength stat, it can still hurt. There are two extra things you need to be wary of during your battle with Surt.
One of those things is that Surt has access to Dekunda, which means that he can remove any debuffs you use on him. However, he doesn’t seem to use Dekunda often enough that debuffs aren’t entirely useless, so test the waters and if Surt uses Dekunda, you could try to lay off using debuffs too much. Speaking of them, the usual round of them will work here, with an emphasis on Tarunda and Rakunda more than anything. The other notable thing is the Counter skill, which means that any skill that you use that is Strength-based, Surt has a chance to retaliate with a weak Physical attack. For someone like Yoshitsune, who has a resistance to Physical, the counter shouldn’t do too much.
However, if anyone else doesn’t have a Physical resistance, then you should shy away from using Strength-based attacks (this includes Dracostrikes). Naturally, Surt will absorb any Fire-based attack, and is weak to Ice. All other elements are neutral, but as already mentioned, you should avoid using Physical/Strength-based attacks to avoid the Counter. Should you not have Fire resistance, then you will want a good healer on your team, like Kushinada-Hime, who has access to Mediarama from the start and can get Heal Pieroma at level 51 (unless she inherits it from some other demon).
Surt Cleanup and Miman 100¶
Once you have finally defeated Surt, you will wrap up the Hellfire Highway main quest, with your reward being 20,000 Macca; you will also gain Surt as a special fusion (he’s level 62). Surt’s defeat will also trigger some more subquests in the area. Right next to the Orthrus NPC will be an Angel, who will give you the A Power Beyond Control quest. Go back to the three NPCs who gave you the talisman to see one of them has a quest, called The Search for Oayamatsumi. Finish that one and you can get another from one of those NPCs, titled Clash with the Kunitsukami. Whenever you’re ready, move past where you fought Surt to continue into the final section of the Chiyoda region.
With A Power Beyond Control active, you will be able to explore an area you previously couldn’t in Shinagawa. Teleport to the Konan 3rd Block in Shinagawa and head southeast from there, where you should see that the Angel that was blocking you before is no longer present. You won’t find much here, but continue southeast until you see some climbing blocks on your map, so go up them and bust open the Treasure Box there for a Balm of Life. A little further southeast, you will come to an Aitvaras NPC, who mentions the giant hole in the ground and gives a hint on A Power Beyond Control (it’s the moon phases). Behind some rubble next to that Aitvaras, you will find Miman #100, which should be the final one from the Shinagawa region. You will also find Amanozako not too far from there, but approach with caution if the moon is full.
Whenever you’re ready, move past where you fought Surt to continue into the final section of the Chiyoda region.
