Even if you’re playing by yourself, Fantasy Life doesn’t have to be a purely solo experience. As you progress the story and increase your Life rank(s), you can invite up to two NPC (or computer-controlled) allies to your party.
Your allies will then follow you around during your adventure and even pitch in during battles. Now your trips won’t be as lonely and those tricky boss fights won’t be as difficult!
Inviting and Dismissing Allies¶
The first step to inviting an ally: you must have reached the stage where the ally allows you to invite them. This may be after a certain point in the story (for story characters) or after reaching a certain Life rank (for Life colleagues).
To invite an ally into your party, simply approach them on the field and press the X button to display their stats, then press the Y button. Hey presto, you’re not a loner anymore!
To dismiss an ally, open the Menu (by pressing the Y button on the field or tapping the “Menu” icon on the bottom screen) and navigate to the “Status” section.
On the bottom screen you can select your allies and press the Y button to send them straight home.
Pets¶
Pets can be obtained from Pet Vendors across the world, provided you have the “Life with a Pet” Bliss Bonus or the subsequent bonuses that allow extra pets. Besides being cute and cuddly, pets can be invited into your party just like human allies.
Just a word of caution: pets are largely outclassed by human allies. So we don’t recommend bringing them along to dangerous locations, unless you just want their company and not their combat ability.
Friendship¶
If you have the DLC, you can also build up Friendship with your pets or allies. Friendship starts at 50 and peaks at 100; the higher the Friendship, the better the ally will perform in battle.
To increase an ally’s Friendship, you must keep them in your party and do interesting activites, such as defeating boss monsters, gathering or crafting. For pets, you can also interact with them at home.
Additionally, Friendship grows faster if you’re in a matching Life as your ally. For example, if you’re a Mercenary, your Mercenary companions will be that much happier.
Some allies don’t have an obvious matching Life though; in particular, the story allies. Who would have thought Leilah preferred the Life of a Carpenter over a Hunter?
Be warned that your allies have feelings too. If you leave them for dead during a boss battle or dismissi them without doing anything, there’s a chance their Friendship will go down. Yikes!
