Tips

What’s the first thing to do after becoming a God Hunter? Celebrate? Nah, let’s head straight to Fern and ask her about the Hunter’s Special Request .

You’ll find out you must defeat a Typhoon Bird in Tortuga Archipelago and bring back its Wicked Bird Feather to Fern. The bird itself can be found in a wide variety of locations, but it will be there somewhere on the archipelago; just keep looking.

Before heading out to hunt the bird, keep in mind it’s one of the hardest bosses in the game, so it will require a lot of time and effort to defeat. This ain’t another easy boss; it will demand nothing less than Godly skills.

Try to arm yourself with the best equipment you can get–we recommend the Spirit King’s Bow and armour from the Elderwood Goddess Statue. In particular, high Wind resistance will make the battle considerably easier.

Finally, take up Fern on her offer and invite her to your hunting party. Not only is she one of the strongest allies, but she can also inflict Stun with some of her attacks.

Once you’ve found the Typhoon Bird, hold onto your hats. At first glance you may be thinking “oh, another Bigbeak”, but don’t lower your guard as this one is far, far more difficult to tame than the others.

The Typhoon Bird’s attacks are hard to evade, so boost your Wind resistance instead.

For starters, it has a similar body thrust attack to the Heaven Bird, but it now blows tornadoes forward with the attack. This attack has little warning, so the best thing you can do is keep away from the bird’s front; use your allies as bait if you have to.

When you hear the bird pause and screech, either run back or get close, as it will shoot multiple wind arrows at mid-range, which can actually be avoided if you’re standing next to the bird (not recommended for a Hunter, but nice for a melee attacker).

However, if you see the bird in mid-flight while it screeches, get back as it’s getting ready for a dangerous lightning-charged dive-bomb attack.

Lastly, when the bird twirls around on the spot and screeches, this indicates its deadliest attack: the Typhoon Bird will summon lightning bolts and multiple tornadoes around itself for an impressive-looking and incredibly damaging attack.

You’d have to be incredibly lucky or skilful to avoid this attack–this is why high Wind resistance is so important. Although if you’re fighting in a wide, open space, you can just run away before the attack begins.

Or, if you’re feeling confident, you can trigger a God or Special Skill as the attack begins to ignore the damage and inflict heavy damage back. Be careful with the timing for the latter, as you can be interrupted at the start and lose your chance to attack.

Once you take down the bird to half health, it will dive bomb three times instead of once, briefly pausing between each dive. Don’t begin attacking until after the third time it dives if you know what’s good for you.

If you just became a God Hunter, don’t be disheartened if you get knocked on the floor more times than you’d like. You will need a lot of perseverance and appropriate stats and equipment to make it out alive.
