Best Receiver Modifications in Starfield

By
Seren Morgan-Roberts

The Receiver Modifications will enable you to change the way that your weapon shoots ammo in Starfield. Some receiver mods can turn the humble pistol into machine gun-esque weapons by changing the way your gun reacts to a trigger pull. This page will detail all the Receiver mods that you can unlock and we’ll also give a detailed breakdown of every Receiver Modification, their crafting cost and the research required. These particular modifications will only become available to players who have 3 to 4 skill points in "Weapon Engineering" iconWeapon Engineering, so they’re definitely geared toward experienced weapon modifiers!

Below, you’ll find a full list of all Receiver Modifications, with a list of all compatible weapons, crafting costs, bonuses (and cons!), as well as the research requirement to unlock the mods.

Best Receiver Mods in Starfield - Pros and Cons

It’s worth bearing in mind that the Receiver mods that change the way that your weapon shoots are a pretty late-game modification as you’re gonna need to put a bunch of points into Weapon Engineering. So, whilst these receiver mods are pretty powerful, you’re gonna have to do a lot to actually unlock them. You can find weapons out in the wild with specific receiver mods, so if you’re not looking to get deep into Weapon Modifying, your best bet might be to keep an eye out for rare modified weapons. The best way to do this is to head out and explore randomly generated camps and buildings on various planets!

Below, we’ve listed some of the best weapon receiver mods, but it’s important to also highlight that these receiver mods are not best suited to certain weapon types, even if they are in the compatible weapons list.

Burst Fire

If you don’t wanna get to Weapon Mods 2, then Burst Fire can be a pretty powerful option from the first tier of Receiver modifications. It’ll fire two rounds per trigger pull. It doesn’t have that many compatible weapons but it does work quite well with a high fire rate weapon like the "Grendel" iconGrendel and "Drum Beat" iconDrum Beat rifles. It could also be a good modification for pistols as well, like the Eon and the "Va'ruun Starshard" iconVa’ruun Starshard.

Fully Automatic

The Fully Automatic receiver means that as long as you’re holding down the trigger, the weapon will shoot ammo continuously. It’s worth mentioning that it will not increase fire rate - so don’t expect your pistol or shot gun to become a crazy machine gun anytime soon. In fact, this modification is best suited to the Rifle and pistol weapons that already have a quicker fire rate. You could try it out on the shotguns and pistols with lower fire rates but it might feel a bit clunky and counter-intuitive.

The Keelhauler is a pistol equipped with the fully automatic receiver.

Binary Trigger

The Binary Trigger is a pretty cool upgrade as it essentially means you fire two rounds each time you pull the trigger (the second shot is released when you release the trigger) - a bit like the Burst Fire mod. This is a mod geared towards pistols and because it essentially shoots two shots with one trigger pull it can feel as though it’s increased your fire rate! Rather than go for the Fully Automatic weapon mod on your pistols, try this one out for size!

You can try to purchase weapons with the Binary Trigger mod if you’re not interested in putting a bunch of points into Weapon Engineering.

Starfield is an action role-playing game from Bethesda Game Studios set in a futuristic interpretation of space exploration and colonization. Earth has long been abandoned, but there are plenty of other planets in different star systems where humans have ventured and settled. You have the freedom to create your own character with a unique background, but the main story will take you through a series of adventures as you uncover more information about mysterious artifacts which create gravitational anomalies. Along the way, you can build and customize your own space ship, establish your own outpost, befriend and romance new companions, and more. As a Bethesda game, you can also expect to see a lot of creative mods which have the potential to change your experience of the base game, or take it in an entirely new direction.
