Building Outposts and setting up mining operations is an important part of crafting in Starfield. It is one of the more reliable ways for you to get important crafting materials frequently. If you’re a player looking to make comfy homes, build spaceships, large outposts, and settlements, or upgrade your weapons, spacesuits, helmets, and packs, then you will need resources. So, to aid you with the most common crafting materials, we have made a list of Starfield’s best Planets for Outposts, offering suggestions to get a wide range of materials and resources for all-purpose crafting.
Best Planets for Outposts in Starfield¶
Below is a list of Starfield’s best planets for outposts in our opinion. The reason for them is that these contain a solid mixture of resources often associated with weapon crafting, research requirements, base building, and other forms of crafting early on. These are likely the most common resources you need across the game. So, it’s better to take a look at these planets for your crafting needs. It also means you have one spare in case there’s any strange resource you need for whatever reason, meaning you can explore yourself and find that godly planet to create a steady stream of resources for your projects. There are 45 mining resources in the game, and many planets you find will only have a few at a time.
Planet | System | Resources |
---|---|---|
Tau Ceti VIII-b | Tau Ceti System | One of the earliest planets you can find the fairly uncommon Tantalum resource, often used in weapon crafting. It also contains, Chlorosilanes, Argon, Iron, Chlorine, and Aluminum, all of which frequently appear in crafting. This should be an outpost planet for lots of crafting materials. |
Tau Ceti I | Tau Ceti System | This early game planet on the far left of Sol contains Palladium, Viridium, Platinum, Uranium, Iron, Nickel, Copper, and Helium. All around really good planet with a lot of common and uncommon building block materials used in many different crafting features. |
Tau Ceti V | Tau Ceti System | Has access to Ytterbium, Palladium, Platinum, and some common basic materials like Nickel, Iron, and a few rarer stuff too, making it another good choice in this system. |
Eridani VII-c | Eridani System | This moon is a better Pluto and Titan, with its having Lead, Titanium, and Tungsten. However, it has Helium-3, Water, Aluminum, Uranium, and Europium, making it a much better planet for an outpost in Starfield. |
Eridani II | Eridani System | Contains Gold, Cobalt, Iron, Nickel, and Copper. These materials are used irregularly, or sometimes fairly often as needed crafting parts. It’s certainly worth setting an outpost here and getting all of these items when possible so you can get quick access to some less frequent, but still useful materials and resources. |
Eridani III | Eridani System | This planet has the complete uranium family, making it a valuable place to put in a mine. You will find Argon, Iridium, Plutonium, Uranium, Vanadium, and Water here. On top of this, the planet’s fauna is known for giving you Sealant, which is part of dozens of outpost recipes. |
Eridani Vii-C | Eridani System | Contains Lithium, Chlorosilanes, and Caesium, which is a very rare material. Very decent for rarer energy weapon mods, and commonly used Choroilanes. An alternative to this planet is Tau Ceti VII-c, which has the same resources but is easier to get to. |
Linnaeus IV-b | Linnaeus System | Has Aluminum, Beryllium, Helium-3, Iron, and Water. These aren’t rare, but the inclusion of Water, along with the basic materials you need for getting mining outposts started makes it a nice choice overall. If you’re looking for plentiful access to many of the basic building blocks on the outpost, then landing here is a must. |
Shoza III | Shoza System | One of the planets found in the midbelt of the star system to the right of Cheyenne. This planet contains life for Adhesives, Lead, Aluminum, and Lithium for the occasional energy weapon mod, which is the big ticket item for energy builds. Lithium is only really needed for power storage and energy weapons, so it is not a big deal if you’re not doing that. |
Verne VII-D | Verne System | This planet is popular for containing the full family of mercury resources. You will be able to extract Copper, Fluorine, Lead, Mercury, Nickel, Silver, Uranium, and Water all from one spot. |
Volii Epsilon | Volii System | Volii Epilson is the same system where you will find the major city of Neon. This planet offers a total of seven resources at once, a few of which are rare. Chlorine, Chlorosilanes, Copper, Fluorine, Ionic Liquids, Lead, and Water can all be found on this planet. Ionic Liquids are a major part of making Isotopic Coolant, a resource you need to make several types of extractors, while Neon, Chlorine, and Chlorosilanes are rare resources. |
With these seven celestial bodies for potential outposts, you’ll find near enough all of the materials you need for the most common crafting needs in Starfield. These are likely Starfield’s best Planets for Outposts, thanks to them covering a lot of ground and even some of the less suggested crafting materials in the game. The most obvious examples being the likes of Tungsten, Titanium, Iron, and Aluminum
Best Planets For Finding Fauna and Flora Resources¶
While mining is important, you will be missing out on important resources like Sealant, Membranes, and Structural Materials. To get these items, you need to find planets that have the correct drops from the flora and fauna that live there. As with the section above, there are several planets across the universe that have been found to be rich in these resources. Once you can set up a Greenhouse and Animal Husbandry area, you will be able to naturally farm these resources on any planet.
Planet | System | Resources |
---|---|---|
Beta Marae I | Beta Marae System | Beta Marae is a frozen planet that offers the chance to farm eight different resources. From the plant life, you can harvest Cosmetic, Nutrient, and Toxin. The alien life offers a bit more resources with Aromatic, Lubricant, Metabolic Agent, Nutrient, and Sedative all being available. |
Cassiopeia IV-a | Eta Cassiopeia System | This is a small moon in the same system where Sarah Morgan’s character quest takes place. You will find Amino Acid, Nutrients, Membranes, Toxins, and Structural Materials from the plants on this planet. Structural Material is used in many recipes from furniture to building your base. |
Procyon 3 | Proycon A System | Proycon 3 is another high-resource planet. From the fauna, you can get Antimicrobial, Fiber, Nutrient, Ornamental Material, and Sealant. From the alien life, you can harvest Adhesive, Antimicrobial, Metabolic Agent, Nutrient, Sealant, Sedative, Spice, Structural Material, and Toxin. |
Zeta Ophiuchi I | Zeta Ophiuchi System | This is a planet where you can harvest nine different resources from the present flora and fauna. From the plant life, you will be able to acquire Fiber, Nutrients, Metabolic Agent, Polymer, and Sealant. If you hunt the local alien species you will find that they commonly drop Metabolic Agent, Sealant, Spice. |
Other Notable ‘Best’ Planets for Outposts in Starfield¶
However, if you go very heavy on crafting, you’re going to need to get much rarer resources, which means venturing out into the distant star systems to the right of Cheyenna, Voila, and other fringes of the settled systems, so, that’s why we offer a few options in case you need to get Outposts for those very rare resources. Yet, considering that not everyone will go down a heavy crafting route, this list is still appropriate for all player types when it comes to building outposts on planters in Starfield.
If some of these are somewhat hard to get to, then Olympus and Sol have decent planets for resources. Nesoi, the main habitable planet of Olympus, has decent materials to create some early Outposts, Meanwhile, moons and planets like Titan and Pluto in Sol are some of the best early-game outposts in Starfield for weapon crafting. Both contain Lead, Tungsten, and Titanium, two of which are some of the most needed early-game weapon crafting materials, with other planets like Mars offering all the Iron you need and traders for mining materials. The only issue is they are limited in their overall available resources, and so outposts on other suggestions above are very helpful.
However, if you decide to go much harder on the crafting, you’ll need much rarer materials, typically found in more distant star systems. The advice we look for there is to go to places like Moloch and Muphris, which are mid-cluster stars to the right of Cheyenne. These are level 25-50 star range systems, which typically have higher chances of finding the three-dot rarity materials like Europium, Xenon, etc., which are only needed for the most experienced crafters in the game. Expect to find those sorts of materials around those fringes of space.
Once you start getting to those higher-level star systems and can craft much more advanced gear at outposts, ships, and player equipment like suits, apparel, and weapons, you’ll likely need to abandon an outpost and look much further into the stars. But, for the more basic stuff, the seven are Starfield’s best planets for outposts to settle on, for the most part, and most common crafting needs.
