The Starborn have some strange-looking ships, but if you’ve tried to take one, you likely got a message saying you weren’t allowed inside of the ship. While you can get yourself your very own Starborn ship, this takes a bit of time and you will need to do the game’s entire main story first. The guide below goes over how to get the Starborn Guardian and what its stats are.
Where to Get a Starborn Ship and How Good Are They?¶
You won’t be able to hijack a Helix ship, as only Starborn can enter them. Instead, you get assigned one after you enter New Game +. Upon moving to another universe you will have the Starborn Guardian and a Starborn Spacesuit. The ship is decent, but you may have had a better ship before swapping universes and you can easily build a better one now. These are the starting stats of the Starborn Guardian:
- Cargo Capacity: 950
- Crew : 5
- Hull: 649
- Jump Distance: 30 LY
- Reactor: Class A - 22
- Shield: 630
- Lasers: 24
- Missiles: 70
As you can see it’s good, but not mind-blowing. In addition, the inside of the ship is pretty basic and doesn’t have any of the nice features of the other ships in the game like a place to show off your guns. On top of this, getting into the ship is a pain as you have to walk all the way up the massive wing. The ship will be upgraded each time you move to a new universe but will stop after New Game + six. At this point, it will turn into the Guardian VI, which is actually one of the top ships in the game. Additionally, keep in mind that you won’t be able to upgrade this ship through normal means. It’s probably best to steal or buy a new ship unless you are on New Game + six already.
These ships are pathetic, a total waste of time. There’s zero incentive to use one. What would’ve been good is if there was a Starborn ship vendor where you could upgrade them like with regular ships. Instead we get the best looking ships in game with absolutely pathetic stats that you can’t upgrade and can’t really find better versions of.
I stole a Guardian VI not long into my first playthrough just as it landed next to me (yeah you can steal them just as they’ve landed) just after the Starborn mission after All That Money Can Buy and I already had a better ship after playing the game for barely 4 days.
Just like half of the other crap in this game Bugthesda barely thought out and implemented what could have been a great feature and in game system. Instead they woefully half assed it just like everything else they do and expected modders to finish the game for them, as usual. At least they’re consistent, consistently mediocre and unimaginative. Disappointing.
