Starfield is Bethesda’s first forte into the space RPG genre, one that isn’t exactly well explored. With the game being Bethesda’s first major headlining single-player RPG since Fallout 4 in 2015, the computing capabilities have certainly greatly expanded. So, if you’re looking to play Bethesda’s ambitious space game, here are the Starfield System Requirements for you.
Starfield System Requirements¶
Below are the Minimum and Recommended System Requirements for Starfield revealed by Bethesda.
Minimum Starfield System Requirements:¶
- OS: Windows 10 version 21H1 (10.0.19043)
- Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 2600X, Intel Core i7-6800K
- Memory: 16 GB RAM
- Graphics: AMD Radeon RX 5700, NVIDIA GeForce 1070 Ti
- DirectX: Version 12
- Storage: 125 GB available space
- Additional Notes: SSD Required
The minimum system requirements for Starfield are fairly tame in computer terms. The I7 CPU is basically a mid-spec CPU from around 2016, which means you ideally need a CPU that is at least 7 years old since its release date to play the game. Meanwhile, the Graphics card series is fairly old now. These GPUs were the generation after the first ever GPUS to be valued as VR-ready, aka the GTX 970 series onward. These graphics cards were released around 2016, too, so you need a medium-spec PC from around 2016 to at least make this playable.
The only standout thing you absolutely need is an SSD. SSDs were not all that common around that time, and with the way games are going SSDs are becoming more and more needed. This is largely thanks to consoles’ spec upgrades, where games now demand high read speed typically associated with SSDs. If you don’t have one of these to store Starfield, yet have the parts, you will find the game will take a while to load, especially with a lot of its loading requirements from traveling between and exploring planets.
Recommended Starfield System Requirements¶
- OS: Windows 10/11 with updates
- Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 3600X, Intel i5-10600K
- Memory: 16 GB RAM
- Graphics: AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080
- DirectX: Version 12
- Network: Broadband Internet connection
- Storage: 125 GB available space
- Additional Notes: SSD Required
As for the recommended specs, these parts are looking for PC parts released around 2019. These PCs are still very common among the Steam surveyed players, so most players will likely be able to easily meet Starfield’s recommended system requirements.
Again, ensure you have an SSD, as a game like this will feel noticeably better or worse depending on this one piece of hardware alone. So, make sure to slot in an SSD or an M2 NVME memory slot before Starfield if this will be your September title.
