Bravely Default

The Airship

By
Vincent Lau

Whoosh! You can’t have a Final Fantasy without a–we mean, you can’t have a good RPG without an airship (or some way to fast-travel)! In Bravely Default, you have the Eschalot, which you can pilot from the end of the first chapter, Intro.

Power Of Flight

When you’re aboard the airship, you can fly everywhere you want, except over the craggy mountain peaks of Eternia, the north-western continent. Sadly, you can’t land everywhere, only in certain bodies of water that haven’t been tainted–those still fresh blue. In the water, you can navigate the Eschalot like a normal ship.

To return to land, you must locate a wooden pier or sandy beach (although if you land in Caldisla’s south-western lake, neither of these are required) and disembark from there. The Eschalot will then stay where you left it and its location will be marked by a cyan Eschalot-shaped blob on the bottom screen.

No Limits!

Later in the game, your airship will be upgraded, enabling it to surpass Eternia’s peaks and land anywhere, provided there aren’t trees or mountains in the way. After landing, the airship will vanish into the sky, but you can summon it at any time (provided it can land where you are) by opening the map menu (press Right on the D-pad or tap the left-most tab on the bottom screen) and selecting the airship icon.

(1 of 2) With Auto-Pilot, you can return to old haunts in a flash.

While aboard the airship, you can select the airship icon again to access the airship’s interior or enable Auto-Pilot. Inside the ship, you can return to the world map by inspecting the steering wheel in the bridge. Auto-Pilot lets you to select a location you’ve visited and the game will instantly transport you there; how convenient!
