This page offers a guide on all the nerfs, buffs and bug fixes in Elden Ring following the the major patch, 1.04.
Patch 1.04 was released on the 19th of April, 2022.
What are Biggest Changes in Patch 1.04 for Elden Ring?¶
A lot of things have been buffed in this patch, with only a few things being nerfed - and nothing major seems to have been nerfed either. it appears that their focus in this patch was to boost other weapons and spells and incantations to be more in line with other “overpowered” items, in order to hopefully create more viable (and fun!) builds. Faith players will be very happy to hear that a whole host of faith-based spells and incantations have been buffed.
One of the biggest changes, as you’ll see below, is to colossal weapons. Too long have they been admired from a far - they’re by far some of the coolest looking weapons but are slow and clunky, especially when fighting agile bosses. With this patch, colossal weapons will (hopefully) be a more feasible weapon choice. A win for the Strength build community!
In addition to a whole host of buffs (and some nerfs), there are some more general bug fixes and also some new additions to the game.

Balance adjustments¶
Below you’ll find a breakdown of the major balance adjustments made to general aspects of the game and what these changes might mean for players.
Colossal Weapons Buffs¶

Increased Colossal Swords/Colossal weapons attack speed and lowered their recovery time. Jump attack not included.

Increased the two-handed attack damage of Colossal Swords/Colossal Weapons. Jump attack not included.

Increased physical block rate and guard boost of the Colossal Sword, Colossal Weapons, Great Sword, Great Hammer, Great Axe, Great Spear, and Halberd weapon classes.

Increased the damage of Grafted Blade Greatsword.

Increased the damage of Devourer’s Scepter.
In a lot of different aspects, colossal weapons have been buffed! Colossal weapons were great for breaking poise and stunning your opponents but they were slow and clunky, and missing a hit would leave you vulnerable to attack since you’d have a slow recovery time when wielding the big weapons. Increasing the attack speed and lowering the recovery times will mean that players can finally make viable colossal weapon builds - time to test out those stupidly huge weapons. The reduction in recovery time and the increase in attack speed won’t impact jump attacks so make sure to keep that in mind - they’ll still be slow attacks!
The block rate and guard boost of Colossal weapons have also been buffed, but so have the Great Sword, Great Hammer, Great Axe, Great Spear, and Halberd weapon classes. This was perhaps done to encourage players to use blocking in their fights and not spam roll and dodge so much.
In addition to buffing the general aspects of colossal weapons, the damage of the Grafted Greatsword and Devourer’s Scepter have also been increased - looks like the devs really want people to start experimenting more with colossal weapons!
Nerfs¶

Decreased the scaling of status effect build-up from spells and incantations of Albinauric Staff and Dragon Communion Seal.

Decreased the effect of Greatshield Talisman for weapons with high block rate.
Greatshield Talisman is a Talisman that boosts guarding ability but this nerf means that it will have a decreased effect when it is equipped on weapons that aleady have a high block rate.

Shortened the length of the madness afflicted animation.

Lowered the speed of madness buildup recovery.
Sorceries and Incantation Adjustments¶
This section will detail the changes made to sorceries and incantations. A lot of the spells seem to have had their cast speed increased and their recovery time decreased. This means that those casting certain spells will need to time their castings a lot more carefully so as not to get caught out, but also you’ll be able to cast them more frequently now given the reduced recovery time.
It seems that Faith-based builds are getting buffed! The Black Flame incantation, which was already a strong Faith choice before, has now received increase damaged and the spell can break enemy’s guard more easily.

Fixed a bug where the damage of mynescapable Frenzy was affected by the right hand weapon.

Fixed a bug where weapon art increased retaliation by weapon and status, and the effect wasn’t shown correctly in multiplay.

Fixed a bug where the animation inflicted with blood loss and frostbite was much bigger than originally planned.

Fixed a bug in the character appearance change menu which reflected some parameters at once.

A bug that prevented a dialog from appearing during the leave execution.

Fixed an error that allowed not to pass to other players.
