Where is Godfrey, First Elden Lord in Leyndell, Ashen Capital

After progressing through Crumbling Farum Azula and defeating Maliketh, the Black Blade you’ll be transported to Leyndell, Ashen Capital, more specifically to the Leyndell, Capital of Ash Site of Grace. Your actions have definitely changed this place, but you won’t find much in the way of opposition as you return to the Erdtree Sanctuary. Make your back back up to the aforementioned Erdtree Sanctuary Site of Grace (where you fought Godfrey, First Elden Lord the first time) then continue onto the Elden Throne (where you fought Morgott, the Omen King). You’ll find Godfrey, First Elden Lord waiting for you.

Godfrey, First Elden Lord - Attacks

This fight is very similar to the first bout with Godfrey, First Elden Lord, save he’ll now deign to face in you in the flesh. He’s more aggressive this time around, and won’t wait to add dashes and stomps to his arsenal, so you can consider this to be a defacto third phase of the ongoing feud with Godfrey.

Axe Rush

Godfrey, First Elden Lord will charge forward holding his axe haft in both hands, then try to swat his target with the flat of his axe. Godfrey, First Elden Lord tends to use this to retaliate against ranged attacks, although it’s incredibly easy to avoid by dodging backwards.

Charging Sweep

Godfrey, First Elden Lord will drag his axe on the ground behind him as he rushes forward, ultimately swinging the blade diagonally up. Very easy to dodge, he mostly uses this to punish you for summoning or healing.

Axe Lunge

Godfrey, First Elden Lord will rear back before lunging forward with his axe, performing a one-handed chop that has deceptive range. Dodge to the side to avoid this attack.

Dragging Sweep

Godfrey, First Elden Lord will drag his axe along the ground while performing a sweeping axe swing. He’ll often do this when attacked from the rear and flank, but he can also use this as part of his Axe Combo attack.

Leaping Axe Throw

Godfrey, First Elden Lord will leap into the air and after a brief delay he’ll toss his axe spinning into the ground. Godfrey will shortly follow his axe and retrieve it, dealing secondary impact damage near and in front of where the axe strikes. You can avoid this attack by running or dodging towards Godfrey when he’s in the air, just don’t dodge away, or you’ll likely get hit by the impact from his axe retrieval, if not the axe itself.

Axe Combo

Performs a succession of axe swipes. His Axe Combos differ considerably from the first fight, as he’ll use fewer, but often faster diagonal chops before transitioning into his Grand Slam. Godfrey is also fond of using dash-stomps as setup moves.

Grand Slam

Godfrey, First Elden Lord will twirl his axe above his head, after which he’ll perform a mighty vertical chop. After chopping with his axe, Godfrey will stomp the butt of his axe, creating a furrow in the ground which will glow for a moment before detonating. The chop, the creation of the rift, and its subsequent explosion can all deal damage. Godfrey will often use this attack to end Axe Combos. Dodging back from the initial swing will suffice for the first phase of the attack, but you’ll need to dodge laterally to avoid the rift-creating stomp and its subsequent explosion.

Stomp

Godfrey, First Elden Lord will perform a stomp - he’ll deliberately raise his foot to signal this attack. When he stomps, stone spikes will erupt from the ground in a cone, dealing moderate damage over a fairly large area. You can jump over this attack with good timing. While this attack is very similar to the stomps he performed in his first fight, these tend to be faster and accompany dashing more often - he’ll often use dash Stomps as a setup for his Axe Combo.

Grand Stomp

Like Godfrey’s normal Stomp attack, for Grand Stomp Godfrey will raise his leg, albeit for a comically long period of time. You should have plenty of time to heal or get in some attacks while this charges. Once the attack is ready, however, Godfrey will unleash a mighty stomp, which has a massive impact radius, effectively most of the battlefield. A well-timed jump will allow you to avoid damage, but be wary, as Godfrey can perform secondary or tertiary stomps following the first one (sometimes after dashes), and these successive stomps will occur with much less charge-up time. Fortunately the damage they deal is moderate and you should have time to recover between Grand Stomps.

Godfrey, First Elden Lord - Strategy

Godfrey is more aggressive this time around, scaling back his axe attacks somewhat in favor of more stomps. He’ll dash and charge right from the outset of the fight, and whereas before you usually only had to worry about the reach of his axe blade, his attacks are now accompanied by explosive rifts and impact shocks, turning his more deliberate chops into elaborate, multi-impact affairs.

Perhaps worse than his axe attacks, Godfrey will start out dashing and stomping from the get-go, and in this second fight he’s capable of both his snappy stomp that projects a cone of jagged rocks in front of him and a longer, charged-up stomp that strikes most of the arena. Both can be mitigated by jumping, but his willingness to perform multiple stomps in succession, and chain stomps into his Axe Combo, and his Axe Combo into his Grand Slam attack, makes Godfrey a hard-hitter with deceptive AoE and the ability to close distances quickly. That said, most of his attacks are fairly deliberate and easy to dodge once you know what to expect.

Melee characters often have plenty of time to close ground (often while avoiding his attacks) and score some cheap hits, while ranged characters will find themselves with plenty of time to sneak in spells or skills. Against reliable midrange attacks like the Wing of Astel’s charge attack, Moonveil’s Transient Moonlight or Rivers of Blood’s Corpse Piler, Godfrey has few good responses.

Since most of Godfrey’s attacks are rather deliberate and requires him to close ground, summons are incredibly useful in this fight. If he’s aggroing a summon, he’s exceptionally easy to punish, and as long as you don’t get greedy, he won’t be capable of retaliating reliably. Godfrey is only resistant to holy damage, taking full damage (or slightly enhanced damage, in the case of slashing) from most sources.

Once he’s reduced to 50% of his health, Godfrey will decide a change is in order, and opt to finish the fight as Hoarah Loux, Warrior.

Hoarah Loux, Warrior - Attacks

Casting aside all the trappings of a civilized fighter, all that remains is reckless aggression and raw, unbridled strength. Hoarah Loux makes Godfrey look downright timid, and while Hoarah Loux has abandoned his axe, he more than makes up for its loss with devastating grapple attacks and a heightened appetite for leap attacks.

Claw Uppercut

Hoarah Loux will perform a raking uppercut, knocking the player up in the air. Hoarah Loux will often follow this with Claw Swipes, a Kick or a Stomp. He can chain these together pretty effectively, making it difficult to recover if you’re hit by any one of these moves.

Claw Swipe Combo

Hoarah Loux will perform multiple overhanded claw swipes in succession, usually advancing every two swipes. He’ll often begin this combo by dashing. Just keep dodging backwards until he stops.

Leaping Smash

Hoarah Loux will leap into the air and smash the ground with his palm. Moderate AoE and damage, the only thing particularly troublesome with this attack is that Hoarah Loux can transition into Claw Swipes and Claw Uppercut very quickly afterwards, and he can roar before performing it, tricking you into thinking he’s performing his Earthshatter Combo.

Sweeping Trip Kick

Hoarah Loux will turn one shoulder away from you before performing a sweeping kick. He’ll often use this in the midst of his Claw Swipes.

Kick (and Stomp)

Hoarah Loux will perform a high vertical kick. Sometimes this will be all he does, other times he’ll perform a Stomp immediately afterwards, as he lowers his leg. He can transition into this attack from his Claw Swipes and Claw Uppercut attacks seamlessly.

Stomp

Hoarah Loux will stomp the ground, causing earthen spikes to sprint up on a cone-shaped area. This is almost identical to the attack he used as Godfrey, but he’ll often follow it up with a Claw Swipe Combo.

Earthshatter Combo

Another potentially devastating, multi-stage attack, Hoarah Loux will roar, then leap into the air and slam into the ground, then reach into the earth and lift up, causing the ground to light up and eventually explode. The roar, slam and explosion can all deal damage. To avoid this attack, simply sprint away when you see him leap into the air - the explosive radius is fairly large, but it takes him a while to trigger it.

Grand Stomp Combo

Virtually identical to the same attack performed during the previous phase of the fight, Hoarah Loux will raise his leg, and after this long charge up he’ll perform a Grand Stomp, unleashing an AoE shockwave that affects most of the battlefield. After the first Grand Stomp Hoarah Loux will smash the ground with his fists, unleashing a second shockwave. Both can be jumped over.

Swipe and Slam

Hoarah Loux will charge at the player with his armed crossed, hands formed into claws. When he gets close he’ll swipe the player, knocking them into the air and following up by leaping after the player, grabbing them, then slamming the player into the ground. Deals massive cumulative damage if the initial charging Swipe hits. You’ll need to time Hoarah Loux’s approach well and rely on iframes to dodge, ideally by rolling diagonally towards and to the side of Hoarah Loux. Sometimes Hoarah Loux will roar before performing a slight variation of this attack, and he may even approach from an indirect route.

Hoarah Loux, Warrior - Strategy

Hoarah Loux retains most of Godfrey’s strengths - the ability to dash, his stomps, his aggression, his multi-stage attacks - and amplifies them as Hoarah Loux. Turns out that axe was, if anything, holding him back.

As Hoarah Loux you can expect the same stomps you saw from Godfrey along with kicks, claw swipes, a nasty grapple attack that’ll send you careening through the air only to be chased and slammed back down, and a variety of leaping attacks of various descriptions.

Hoarah Loux is relentless and powerful, and his combos are capable of finishing the fight with devastating alacrity. All it takes is some bad luck and one failed dodge and you could find yourself clawed, kicked, stomped and slammed back to the last Site of Grace. For melee warriors, Hoarah Loux is a test of patience, as you can only safely punish him after he misses his Swipe and Slam grapple attack, and even then, the window is rather short.

Summons, as usual, help considerably by drawing your enemy’s aggro, although Hoarah Loux’s ability to chain attacks together and switch targets at a moment’s notice still makes melee a dangerous proposition. Ranged characters definitely hold an edge, although it can be quite tricky getting all but the fastest spells off unless Hoarah Loux is focused on your summon. Once again, characters capable of abusing weapons with quick, midrange options like the Wing of Astel’s charge attack, Moonveil’s Transient Moonlight or Rivers of Blood’s Corpse Piler will find this fight much easier.

Like Godfrey, Hoarah Loux is only resistant to holy damage, taking full damage (or slightly enhanced damage, in the case of slashing) from most sources. Defeating Hoarah Loux will earn you 300,000 Runes and the Remembrance of Hoarah Loux.
