Grave Warden Duelist Location in Limgrave¶
You’ll find Grave Warden Duelist at the end of the Murkwater Catacombs, which is located north of the Murkwater Cave site of grace, at the end of the ravine.
Attacks¶
The Grave Warden Duelist wields two Warhammers. His attacks deal large amounts of stamina damage, so dodging as well as blocking is recommended.
Stab and Drag¶
The most common attack that he’ll use is a stab like attack with the one hammer whilst dragging it back to him, this attack is really easy to block, then counter for some decent damage providing he doesn’t chain one of his other attacks after it.
Grab¶
If you allow the Grave Warden to close, he can grab your head and throw you to the ground, dealing a significant amount of damage. To avoid this, make sure you don’t stand right in front of him.
Ground and Pound¶
The Grave Warden will pound his hammers into the ground repeatedly, up to four times. It’s best to keep your distance from this attack until he’s finished. This will succeed a three-hit combo that ends with a slam.
Hammer Swing Combo¶
This attack will have the Grave Warden swing one of his hammers in a swiping motion up to four times. Once again, keep your distance and wait for an opening.
Dual Hammer Swing Combo¶
Similar to his Hammer Swing Combo, but this attack will use both hammers, swinging side to side before he finishes it off with a double hammer slam. It’s best to keep distance from this attack, otherwise you’ll run out of stamina trying to avoid/block all the attacks.
Overhead Swing¶
This consists of the Grave Warden attacking once, then lifting the second hammer in the air and spinning it around his head before he unleashes it at you from his right to left. This attack can be parried pretty easily due to its long wind up.
Double Hammer Slam¶
He’ll launch himself into the air before he slams down with both hammers. Wait until he lands the attack and try backstabbing him. If you don’t want to take the risk, you can get a couple of hits in.
Braggart’s Roar¶
Around the halfway mark of the battle, he can buff himself with attack up, defense up, and stamina recovery up. This is indicated by the red glow around him.
Strategy¶
The strategy for defeating Grave Warden Duelist will depend on your class, but as with most of these boss fights, it will come down to how well you anticipate the attacks, and how quickly you avoid or counter them. Whether you’re a melee or ranged focused class, using your Spirit Calling Bell to summon assistance from your spirit allies will make the fight much easier, especially Northern Mercenary Ashes. Not only will these inflict extra damage, they’ll also serve as a distraction, keeping him away from you for much if not most of the fight.
Another good strategy if you have access to a shield is countering. After you successfully block an attack, you can use your strong attack to counter him, if you succeed with three counters it will down him, opening him up for a riposte attack dealing some major damage to him. For most of his attacks, he’ll be using multi-hit combos but stays relatively stationary whilst performing them, keep your distance and use some ranged attacks on him for some free damage.
The toughest part about the Grave Warden is his overly aggressive nature barraging you with non-stop attacks, making it hard to get a hit in, which is where parrying and countering come into play. The best bit of advice is to stay patient, wait for an opening like when he does his Double Hammer Slam, and chip away at him.
