How to Complete the Earthbore Cave¶
Enter the Earthbore Cave and claim the Earthbore Cave Site of Grace. This cave lacks much in the way of interesting enemies or worthwhile loot, but it can still prove somewhat dangerous - be sure to bring a Torch or Lantern, as much of the cave is prohibitively dark.
Case in point, make your way southwest from the Site of Grace and you’ll reach a chamber with a chest in the southern corner. Be wary, though, as the floor in front the chest is cracked, and if you step on it you’ll fall through it and into the den of some Rats and a Giant Rat. If you circle around the edge of the cracked floor you can loot the chest to score 3x Pickled Turtle Neck items.
Assuming you didn’t fall through the floor, go down a passage to the northwest and kill any Rats you find, continuing down the linear tunnels until you reach the aforementioned rat den. Kill the Rats inside (a task that’s made somewhat easier if you’re not falling into their midst) then go down a tunnel to the southeast, kill two more Rats, then loot some corpses to obtain a Glowstone and 5x Kukri.
Continue southwest and you’ll find a pit lined with ledges you can drop down to descend safely. Before you drop down, keep in mind that you’re not getting back out until you fight the boss of this dungeon… one way or another. Take the plunge, then follow the linear passage until it opens into a chamber where a Runebear slumbers.
The Runebear is the boss of this dungeon, and despite the pretension of having a proper boss bar, there’s little to separate this beast from the Runebears you could find back in Mistwood.
Granted, Runebears are fairly annoying foes due to their durability, damage, and the AoE of their lunge attack, and this one is no exception. If anything, this boss is made much more dangerous by the relatively cramped cavern you have to fight in - if it decides it’s going to perform its lunge, it can be tricky to dodge, and the size of your foe, its tenacity, and the cavern’s inadequate size can make healing difficult.
Use summons to draw aggro and if the Runebear fixates on you, try dodging towards it - with the limited space available to you, you’ll be relying on iframes to avoid damage, so you may as well be in position to counter attack afterwards. On a more positive note, the Runebear should start out napping, allowing you to land some free hits to start the fight.
The Runebear isn’t resistant to any forms of damage, and is somewhat weak to physical (slash) and fire.
Defeat the Runebear and you’ll obtain the Spelldrake Talisman, after which you can teleport back to the beginning of the dungeon.
