In Elden Ring, you’ll find a wide range of characters that will share their plight with you, most of these will have Quests that span multiple locations. This page will detail where you can find Gurranq and complete his Questline.
First Meeting - Bestial Sanctum¶
To meet and begin Gurranq’s Quest, you’ll first need to progress through D, Hunter of the Dead’s Quest. Doing so will lead you to a teleporter that will send you to the Bestial Sanctuary in Dragonbarrow, found to the northeast of Caelid. Once you reach the Sanctum, head to the end of the hall and speak with Gurranq to learn a little more about him.
You’ll learn that he’s seeking Deathroots and remarks that should you feed them to him, he’ll reward you in kind. For the first step of this Quest, you’ll need to feed him four Deathroots, after which point something different will happen.
How to stop Gurranq from attacking you¶
Once you give him the fourth Deathroot, Gurranq will give in to the frenzy and attack on site. At this point, you’ll need to deal enough damage to stop Gurranq’s assault, but without killing him. As such, consider using a Spirit Ash to help divert attention away from yourself, you’ll need to deal over 1000 damage to him and his attacks are devastating. To make life easier for yourself, you can retreat outside of the Sanctum and Gurranq can’t follow you. From here, you can use spells or bows to deal damage from range.
Alternatively, if you’re still struggling, you can lure Gurranq to the doors, then engage in battle with the Black Blade Kindred on the stairs and have him attack you at the door. You’ll die from this, but the damage from the Black Blade Kindred should push Gurranq over the 1000 damage threshold and cause him to relent, ending the battle with him. Regardless of how you calm him, Gurranq won’t talk to you again until your return with the next Deathroot.
The gif below shows how to calm Gurranq using this method:
Handing over 9 Deathroots¶
Once you’ve handed over all 9 of the Deathroots to Gurranq, he’ll have some more dialogue, at which point he bids you farewell and brings his Quest to an end. You will meet Gurranq later in your journey, under a different guise.
All Deathroot Locations¶
You’ll need to seek out and hand over all 9 Deathroots to complete Gurranq’s Quest, these can be found in set places around the Lands Between and you’ll know when you’re near one when you’re greeted by a message stating “The Beast Eye quivers.”
