Deathbird Location in Limgrave¶
Deathbird will actually show up in multiple locations in the Lands Between, but this particular boss will appear south of Warmaster’s Shack at night only. Head to the Grace at the shack and change the time to night, then head south where the Trolls usually roam and you’ll soon be attacked by Deathbird. Unlike many other field battles, if you’re melee, it’s suggested to fight this battle on the ground. If you have magic, then you can utilize it from Torrent as Deathbird is weak to all forms of magic.
Attacks¶
Thrust and Drag¶
The Deathbird will thrust his cane out towards you, before quickly dragging it back. This attack can strike you twice and is often used when you’re at medium range. When you roll through the first Thrust, continue to roll to find yourself under the Deathbird for some easy hits.
Peck¶
When standing under the Deathbird’s head, it will attempt to peck you from above, often more than once. As the attack is coming from above, it will usually bypass shields so as soon as you see it raise its head while under it, roll between its legs.
Swing¶
The Deathbird will swing its cane in a wide arc, this has massive range and can be difficult to avoid at range or on horseback, however if you’re up close, this should miss you.
Sweep and Leap¶
The Deathbird will first sweep his cane in a long arc, taking it into the air and slamming down with the cane after. Roll through the first sweep and you should find yourself behind the Deathbird’s legs, free to get some attacks on it.
Leap¶
As a melee, this is the attack you’ll want to bait Deathbird into using. When at range, it will leap high into the air and slam down with its cane. This is well telegraphed, and you can simply roll through the slam and punish the Deathbird from behind.
Roar¶
The Deathbird will let out a roar, stunning you if you’re caught up in it. This has a surprisingly small radius, so unless you’re right up in its face, this will most likely miss you. If you do find yourself too close to get away, hold a shield up or roll through it to avoid it.
Strategy¶
Deathbird’s difficulty can vary based on how you wish to tackle it and what your playstyle is. If you’re a mage with long-range magical capabilities, you can stay on Torrent, keep medium distance and pelt it with spells, its weak to most forms of magic and even attacks like Ash of War: Sacred Blade will put huge dents into its HP. If you’re a straightforward melee however, you’ll want to go toe-to-toe as the best place to be is directly under its legs.
With that in mind, your goal should be to find yourself around the legs of the Deathbird at all times, the only attack you’ll have to watch out for at this point is the Sweep and Leap, but that can be avoided by rolling through the first sweep. Just be wary not to find yourself standing under its head, it will use Peck on you and if it it uses it multiple times, the damage can really add up, especially as you won’t be able to guard through it.
If the Deathbird retreats, try to keep a bit of distance and bait it into using Leap, this is a long-range attack that will see it leap high into the air before bringing its Cane crashing down. Once you’ve seen the attack once or twice, this is the easiest attack to avoid and if you roll towards the Deathbird, it will bring you right underneath it where you can get several attacks on it.
There’s really not much else to say about Deathbird, once you know how to tackle the few attacks it uses, it shouldn’t be arguably difficult to topple, especially if you have any form or magic. It’s for good reason too, as you’ll be encountering Deathbirds in multiple locations throughout the Lands Between. Once you do bring this Deathbird to its knees, you’ll obtain the Blue-Feathered Branchsword which will raise your defense when your HP is low.
