This page details everything you need to know about where to find and how to beat Fraekni the Zealous, one of the Berserker Gravestone soul bosses. This one is found on the Lake of Nine in Midgard. You’ll need the Hilt of Skofnung to activate the gravestone and summon Fraekni, which you’ll get during The Word of Fate main quest.
Where to Find Fraekni the Zealous Berserker Gravestone on The Lake of Nine¶
As you probably know by now, before you can activate the gravestone to summon Fraekni the Zealous you’ll need to acquire the Hilt of Skofnung first, during The Word of Fate main quest. Once you have this, you’ll find Fraekni on the Lake of Nine, at the location shown in the screenshot below, west of The Oarsman. The boss fight will begin as soon as you interact with the gravestone, so be ready for the fight. This is likely to be the first Berserker Gravestone fight that you encounter, and it’s probably the easiest.
How to Defeat Fraekni the Zealous - Attacks¶
Charge Attack¶
One of the most common attacks that you’ll see Fraekni perform is an unblockable charge attack. This is always indicated by a red circle, so you’ll have a brief moment to prepare a dodge. The key here is to dodge at the last possible moment, rather than as soon as you see the red ring. If you dodge too soon the attack will likely hit you. As with almost any other unblockable attack, you can also stop them by executing a Light or Heavy Runic Attack, or by using the ability from your Relic or Sword Hilt, but you’ll need to make sure that you time this properly and it will be more difficult from a distance. It’s probably best to reserve this method for when you’re sure that Fraekni is close enough to be affected by the ability.
There’s another version of this charge attack which is marked by a yellow circular ring, indicating that it can be blocked or parried. All you need to do to negate this one is hold your shield up if you have one that can outright block yellow ring attacks (such as the Stone Wall shield), or be ready to time a parry just before the attack hits. Fraekni will often follow this attack up with a few more melee strikes, so don’t let your guard down until you’re familiar with exactly how many strikes she tends to use. You can then use your shield ability by double tapping to inflict stun damage, or retaliate with some melee strikes / abilities of your own.
Overhead Strike¶
The other attack that Fraekni will use frequently is an overhead strike with her axe. This can also come in an unblockable form, or in a form that can be blocked / parried. If you see the red circular ring, be ready to dodge out of the way. You’ll find that it’s far easier to avoid these attacks by dodging around Fraekni, rather than away from her. This may seem counterintuitive since you’ll remain closer to Fraekni than you would if you were to dodge away, but it ensures that her melee attacks won’t reach you. If you see the yellow ring, you can block or parry this attack instead, and you can do the same for any attack that isn’t marked by a red circle ring.
These are actually the only two main attacks that Fraekni has at her disposal, so it’s incredibly easy to learn the attack patterns and how to avoid them. At the end of the fight, you’ll need to execute a stun grab attack to finish her off.
You can see all of Fraekni’s attacks and how to avoid them in quick succession in the gif below.
