The visuals in the God of War franchise have only become more impressive with each new release, and with the prospect of a PS5 combined with 4k+ HDR TVs and monitors, never has that been more true than with God of War Ragnarok. This is a game which can really make the most of Photo Mode!
Photo Mode for God of War Ragnarok¶
You may remember that Photo Mode was absent from 2018’s God of War initially. It took a few weeks before an update was released to introduce it, although for PC gamers the feature was available from the beginning. The same has been true for God of War Ragnarok - it took a few weeks before Photo Mode was eventually released with the December 5th, 2022 patch. If there is a PC version in the future, we can probably expect that it will come with Photo Mode available from the beginning.
With that said, there has been some progress made in terms of accessing the unfinished Photo Mode in God of War Ragnarok, with the modder Speclizer already unlocking it. This is very much an unfinished product and it looks rather similar to 2018’s God of War Photo Mode, but there are some glimpses of new features such as being able to manipulate Mimir’s facial expressions. We might also expect more control over the expressions and poses of Kratos and Atreus, but that remains to be seen.
New Photo Mode Features for GoW Ragnarok¶
So far, based on the cracked version, it looks like there aren’t many new features coming with God of War Ragnarok’s Photo Mode, but there’s plenty of time for the developers to update it before an official release. We can only hope for more manipulation of things like weather effects, shaders, lighting, particle effects and so on, alongside the standard field of view, exposure, film grain features. Something like what we’ve seen in the Collector’s Edition of Ghost of Tsushima would be a dream for this game!
We’ll be updating this page as soon as we know more about Photo Mode in God of War Ragnarok.
