How to Find The Southern Wilds¶
You’ll travel to The Southern Wilds automatically at the start of the main quest The Reckoning. There are five collectibles here, four of which you can obtain during your first visit. Due to the Mystic Gateway in this area, it’s one of the few locations of Vanaheim you’ll have unimpeded access to throughout most of the game. Almost everything you don’t obtain during your first visit can be found after completing The Reckoning, just use a Mystic Gateway to travel back here. The sole exception is the Hel Tear, which you can only acquire after the main quest Reunion.
Where to Find All Odin’s Ravens in The Southern Wilds¶
Odin’s Raven #1¶
Likely the first collectible you’ll stumble across, from the Mystic Gate at the southern end of this region, follow the trail north until you find a fork, at which point turn west. Pass through an arch made of roots and you’ll find this raven flying in a figure-eight pattern over a pond.
Where to Find All Legendary Chests in The Southern Wilds¶
Legendary Chest - Wrath of the Frost Ancient¶
Progress north through The Southern Wilds until you stumble across some abandoned Vanir ruins - this will be after one of your companions transforms, Kratos opens a gate, and Brok introduces you to the hostile flora infesting Vanaheim. Defeat the enemies in the ruins and search a wall to the north to find a hole you can crawl through. At the end of this passage you’ll find a Legendary Chest which contains Wrath of the Frost Ancient, a Light Runic Attack for the Levithan Axe.
Where to Find All Artifacts in The Southern Wilds¶
Artifact - Kvasir’s Poem - Upon Pursuing a Place Not Marked On Maps¶
In the ruins of the same Vanaheim marketplace where you found the Legendary Chest, above, you’ll find a section of breakable floor. Kill the enemies, circle around to the eastern end of the ruins and you’ll find some ledges you can climb, allowing you to reach an upper walkway. Jump between sections of these ruins until you’re overlooking the breakable floor and use the prompt to smash it. You’ll find the Artifact - Kvasir’s Poems in the hole.
Where to Find All Nornir Chests in The Southern Wilds¶
There’s a single Nornir Chest in this region, just keep progressing down the linear path following the ruined vanir marketplace, defeat some Gulon, crawl under some tree roots and go through a cave, before which you’ll be introduced to dangerous spitting plants. Keep marching northwest past this point and you’ll spot the Nornir Chest dead head.
This particular Nornir Chest uses rune poles, the locations of which can be found below:
- Rune 1: From the Nornir Chest, look left (southwest) and up the cliffs to spot the first rune pole. This is the only one that can be found out in the open.
-
Rune 2: From the Nornir Chest, look right (east, northeast) to find some brambles atop a stone ledge. Burn the brambles away with the Blades of Chaos and you can strike the rune pole.
-
Rune 3: From the Nornir Chest, turn around (turn south, southeast) and backtrack towards the cave you passed through. As you go, keep your eye on the cliffs to the left and you should spot some brambles. Same idea as the rune pole above, burn the brambles away to reveal the rune pole, then strike it with the Leviathan Axe. The only difference this time is that the brambles you need to target with the Blades of Chaos are a good distance away from the rune pole - the first will reach them, regardless.
Once you’ve hit the aforementioned rune poles, go claim your prize from the Nornir Chest - either an Idunn Apple or a Horn of Blood Mead.
Where to Find All Hel Tears in The Southern Wilds¶
You can only clear the Hel Tears if you’ve reached or passed the main quest Reunion. Once that condition is met, head to the Mystic Gateway along the southern end of The Southern Wilds and follow the path north. The Hel Tear will be just to the right (east) as you go - between your companions informing you of the tear and the shimmering black-green of the rift itself, it should be hard to miss. Interact with the Hel Tear and you’ll have to survive a Hel-Traveler and numerous Hel-Brood until the rift is closed.
