This page will detail how to complete the Garden for the Dead Favor in God of War Ragnarok.
Where to Start the Garden for the Dead Favor¶
Speak to Astrid by the central ruins to begin this Favor
You will be able to start this Favor after completing The Reckoning main story quest. As you’re leaving Vanaheim with Freya, she will cast an enchantment on your chisel, allowing you to use the little mirrors you’ve been seeing across the realms. The one you come across on your travels in Vanaheim will open a pathway leading to a boat, which will eventually take you to a shore with a Mystic Gateway. Your story objective here is to use the Mystic Gateway to return to Sindri’s House, but you have the option to continue exploring Vanaheim. Use a Sonic Arrow to break the nearby log to get exploring.
One of the places where you can dock your boat is called Noatun’s Garden. Upon first getting there, you will have to face some enemies, so clear them out and look for a spirit named Astrid by the one tree to give you this Favor.
How to Complete the Garden for the Dead Puzzle¶
Note that it’s possible to actually complete the requirements for this Favor before even talking to Astrid, as all of your objectives are in the area of Noatun’s Garden. There’s some totem things spewing out poison in this garden area, and your objective is to get rid of them all. You need to completely destroy all three poison totems, meaning that freezing them with your axe won’t do anything. Luckily for you, there are conveniently placed explosive pots near each of them, so you just need to hit those in order to get rid of the totems.
How to Destroy the First Poison Totem¶

When you first dock on Noatun’s Garden, you should see a mirror that requires the chisel on the far end. To the left of this, a little closer than the mirror, will be a Poison Totem. This is the easiest of the three, since it’s very obvious how to get to the explosive pot. Just go to the dead end right next to the totem (north) and you will be able to see the pot behind the rocks. Toss the axe at the explosive pot to destroy the totem.
How to Destroy the Second Poison Totem¶

If you face the mirror mentioned above, the second Poison Totem will be to the right of it. However, the explosive pot is behind a metal grating, attached to a runic disc, which means you will need to find another way to get to it. To the southeast or so of the totem, there is a wall you can climb, so do that to get on top of the nearby ruins. From up here, look back at where the totem is and you will see the runic disc holding the explosive pot in place. You can hit it from this spot, so do that to drop the pot and destroy the totem.
How to Destroy the Third Poison Totem¶
The third Poison Totem is inside the ruins that Astrid is next to, although there doesn’t seem to be a way to get to the explosive pot. If you circle around that ruin, you will see a fairly small opening on the one side, where you can line up your shot with the axe on the explosive pot.

Once you have destroyed all three Poison Totems, return to Astrid to finish the Favor. As a reward, you will receive the Svartalfheim’s Safety Amulet Enchantment.
