This page will detail how to start and complete the Trail of the Dead Favor in The Jungle of Vanaheim for God of War Ragnarok.
How to Start the Trail of the Dead Favor in The Jungle of Vanaheim¶
You will see this Favor automatically begin after completing the Return of the River Favor in The Jungle. On your way back from it, after taking the lift back down, you will witness some wildlife and a dragon will swoop by and snatch one of them, officially starting the Favor.
How to Complete the Trail of the Dead Favor¶
There’s a bit involved in finishing this sidequest, so start by getting in the boat right in front of you. Sail to the east, ignoring the one shore tucked away near the Celestial Altar (you will be going there in a little bit). Continue east, until you head through a narrower passage and see a dock. You know you’re in the correct spot, should you see a crack in the wall up the hill that you can squeeze through, which will lead to the Ogre that was tossing boulders at you at the start of entering The Jungle.
Defeat the Ogre and Nokken¶
The catch is that there’s not only one Ogre, but two, and they have one of those buff-happy Nokken with them, for each one (so two Nokken). Obviously, chase down the Nokken and deal with it first, then work on defeating the two Ogres. Unfortunately, the dragon will say hello and steal the kill of the second Ogre. With that out of the way, you can now head back to your boat and dock at the one beach mentioned above. When you get off here, there will be two Wulvers to contend with (and another Nokken), so kill them both. There’s also a Nornir Chest here, so if you wish to take care of that, visit the All Collectibles in The Jungle page.
Go up to the Celestial Altar now and there will be a climbable wall to the side of it. Head up that wall, then drop off the side and follow this path to a grapple point. Grapple from point to point, until you can climb up a ledge opposite some vines. While here, use the Sigils along the ceiling and create a path for you to burn the vines. You can now use the grapple points to cross over to that side, loot the Legendary Chest, and continue around the corner to a wall you can climb at the end. If you didn’t kill the Ogres earlier, then you won’t be able to climb the wall. This will take you to an arena above, where you will face off with the dragon, The Corpse Eater.
Corpse Eater Dragon Boss in The Jungle¶
The Corpse Eater is a dragon that will use ice attacks on you. Since you don’t want to get afflicted with Frost, you will generally want to avoid all of those attacks from the dragon. It has the charging attack, which is unblockable, as well as an ice beam. If you’ve fought other dragons, you might have seen them take flight, which this one will also do. However, in addition to the normal swoop in and elemental breath, Corpse Eater can also fly upwards and smash into the ground, unleashing a small shockwave. If it’s the swoop in and grab move, then you can throw a spear at the dragon to make it crash to the ground.
The dragon also has a few attacks with its jaw, although its melee combo can be blocked entirely. However, there is one tricky attack it does when you’re in close. You will see a red ring appear, then it will hop backwards and unleash a bunch of ice orbs. The tricky part here is that the ice orbs will hit the ground to the side of Kratos, so you will want to dodge backward, if you do at all. Note that the dragon will pretty much always do a lunging attack after letting loose the ice orbs, so get ready to block, in case you don’t get out of range.
At some point during the battle, usually with about 1 1/2 bars left, the Corpse Eater will grab you and fly off. There will be a quick-time event here, where you need to hit either R1 or R2 to strike the dragon while it flies with you in its clutches. Eventually, you will land back in the arena and just need to shave off the rest of its health, resulting in the quick-time event to finish off the dragon and the Favor.
