God of War: Ragnarok

Return of the River

By
Jarrod Garripoli

This page will detail how to start and complete the Return of the River Favor in The Jungle area of Vanaheim in God of War Ragnarok.

Where to Start the Return of the River Favor in God of War Ragnarok

To begin, you will need to have gotten to and completed the main quest, Creatures of Prophecy. Once you’ve done that, head to Freyr’s Camp and complete the Scent of Survival Favor, which will bring you to The Crater. From there, you will need to find your way to The Jungle, so visit the How to Reach The Jungle page for more details on that.

(1 of 4) Drop down here after entering The jungle

When you first enter The Jungle, you should see an Ogre across the canyon, who will start chucking boulders at you. Ignore that and look for a ledge to drop off of to the west, where you will find a poison totem. Freeze it and move past it, until you encounter two Wulvers. Upon defeating both of them, climb the wall behind them and you will be at the dam, with the Favor automatically starting at that point.

How to Complete the Return of the River Favor

Once you get the pop up that the Favor has started, follow the path to some enemies at a gate you can’t open, then continue beyond that to some vines. Do the usual to burn them, then take the lift behind them to the upper area of the dam. As you get off the lift, you should see some enemies before you, so take all of them out. Not far from where you got off the lift, you should notice a wind vent on the wall. Throw your spear at it, then detonate the spear to create a big enough hole that you can squeeze through it.

(1 of 2) Burn through the vines to finally reach the dam

Burn through the vines to finally reach the dam (left), Use your Spear to blow a hole in this wall (right)

On the other side, you will witness a Dreki grab some wildlife, before hopping back into the water, triggering the start of the What Lies Below Favor. Turn your attention to the side to find two enemies, although they seem to regenerate their health. However, you can easily knock them into the water without trying to hunt down the Nokken. When the coast is clear, turn your attention back to the dam to find that it’s covered in vines. The first set is easy to get, since you can easily reach it with the Blades, but the second set will require some set up with the Sigil Arrows.

(1 of 2) Three very large sigils should be enough to burn the second set of vines

Three very large sigils should be enough to burn the second set of vines (left), Turn the wheel after burning the vines to finally get the water flowing again (right)

Three large Sigils at the correct spots is ideal, without having to utilize the wheel and runic disc. When you’re burnt the second set of vines, you can turn the nearby wheel to raise the levees, allowing the water to flow again. Once that has been done, return through the crack in the wall for a quick little scene and the end of this Favor.
