There are currently four different die designs (aka dice skin colors) to choose from in Baldur’s Gate 3, excluding mods. These are the Behir Blue, Illithid Purple, Dragonflame Red, and Scuffed Metal. The Scuffed Metal design is the default one, but to get the others you’ll need to own the Collector’s Edition or Deluxe Edition of the game, or you can link your Larian account to the platform that you’re playing the game on - such as Steam - to get the Behir Blue dice skin. On this page we’ll show you exactly how to do this, and how to change your dice skin colors in game.

How to Change the Die Design in Baldur’s Gate 3¶
The first thing you should know about the different die designs / dice skin colors in Baldur’s Gate 3, is how to change them in game. To do this, you’ll first need to encounter a scenario that requires you to roll, such as a dialogue check using Charisma, Persuasion, or any other relevant attribute. You can also force a roll whenever you try to unlock something using Thieves’ Tools, for example. There are usually plenty of roll opportunities that you’ll encounter throughout the game, so it shouldn’t take you long to find one.
Once you’re on the screen where a roll check is occurring, look to the bottom left of the screen to see a space die symbol. You need to click on this to bring up the “Choose Die Design” menu, which will display all of the die designs that you currently have access to. This will vary depending on which version of the game you purchased, and also whether you have linked your Larian account to the platform you’re playing on, in the case of the Behir Blue die. We’ll go through each die design in more detail below.

How to Get the Scuffed Metal Dice Skin in BG3¶
The Scuffed Metal dice skin in Baldur’s Gate 3 is the default die design that will be available to all players, regardless of which version of the game they purchased. This is a simple purple design with white numbers, as shown in the first screenshot above.
How to Get the Behir Blue Dice Skin in BG3¶
The Behir Blue dice skin in Baldur’s Gate 3 can only be unlocked by linking your Larian account to the platform that you’re currently playing the game on. For PC players, that means linking your Larian account to the Steam platform or the GOG platform, depending on which you purchased the game from. It may be that the game will also become available on Gamepass at some point in the future, but don’t hold us to that since it’s not guaranteed that the same account linking function will be present. If not, we might expect Larian to find another way to put the Behir Blue die design in the game for those players.
How to Link Your Larian Account to Steam or GOG¶
The easiest way to link your Larian account to either Steam or GOG at the moment is to open up the game from either platform, then sign up to Larian or login with your existing account. You’ll then be prompted to link your account by clicking “Connect”, as shown in the screenshot below. The accounts should then link automatically, although you may need to login once more to confirm it. If you don’t see the Behir Blue dice skin in your game when you come to select it, try reloading the Steam or GOG clients to make sure that the account linking is complete.

If you’d rather not have your Larian account linked to your account for the platform of choice, you can always unlink them via the account settings in the future. You can even do this immediately after linking them once you’ve confirmed that you have the Behir BLue design, but we wouldn’t necessarily recommend it since you’ll now be able to load the game without having to skip the Larian account sign in each time.
How to Get the Dragonflame Red (Deluxe Edition) Dice Skin in BG3¶
The Dragonflame Red dice skin in Baldur’s Get 3 can be obtained by purchasing the Deluxe Edition of the game. If you purchased the Early Access version of BG3 on PC before it was officially released, you will have been upgraded to the Deluxe Edition by default, so the Dragonflame Red die design should already be available to you. As mentioned above, to begin using it you’ll need to select it from the icon at the bottom left of the screen whenever you have a roll check.
How to Get the Illithid Purple (Collector’s Edition) Dice Skin in BG3¶
The Illithid Purple dice skin in Baldur’s Gate 3 can be obtained by purchasing the Collector’s Edition of the game. This is currently available for pre-order on both PC and PS5, and it’ll set you back by around 260 Euros (or the equivalent for your currency exchange at the time). For this you’ll get a Mind Flayer vs Drow battle diorama, a hardcover art book, a tadpole keyring, a real Baldur’s Gate 3 D20 die, four character sheets for each origin character, stickers, a cloth map of Faerun, a Magic: The Gathering booster pack, a Collector’s Edition certificate, and much more alongside the Illithid Purple die design.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Dice Skin Mods¶
As with any game that supports modding, you can expect a whole bunch of unique mods to come for Baldur’s Gate 3. There has already been a mod for die designs in BG3 for the Early Access version, so it’s only a matter of time before this is made compatible with the full version. Be sure to check the Mods at Baldur’s Gate 3 on Nexus if you’re looking for even more options than those mentioned above. It’s worth noting that some mods can corrupt save files in games which are as ambitious as BG3, so you’ll need to backup your folders before you make any changes.
