If you make it to the Shattered Sanctum of Act 1, and decide to sneak into the Priestess’ room, then you may find a hidden temple. The hidden temple, is, in fact, a Defiled Temple, which contains a puzzle on the floor. If you happen to be stuck trying to rearrange the discs, here’s how to solve the Defiled Temple moon Puzzle in Baldur’s Gate 3.
Solving The Defiled Temple Moon Puzzle in Baldur’s Gate 3¶
While walking around the Shattered Sanctum in the Goblin Camp, you may have encountered a few murals across the ruins. These murals typically have four moons in a diamond shape. The shape typically indicates a full moon at the top, two half moons at the side, and no moon at the bottom. One example is above the door in the chamber you enter if you go down the stairs towards the Defiled Temple, with another one located in the locked room near the trader in the Sanctum.
This shape is what you need to match with the discs moon puzzle on the floor of the Defiled Temple. To begin rearranging the moon discs, you want to aim to get all the ones without moons on the illuminated tile, and all the full moons at the top. This is because it points at the door it will open, and the light signals daytime, hence why the base requires no moons.
So, to complete the Defiled Temple puzzle, you need the full moons at the top, and the ones at the side require two half moons along the outer edges. For reference, you can follow along with our video tutorial, showing you the step by step of solving the moon puzzle in Baldur’s Gate 3.
If you successfully complete the moon puzzle in Baldur’s Gate 3, then you will be awarded experience, and the archway at the back to the room will open up, leading to the Underdark and more importantly, a Selunite Outpost.
However, if solving puzzles isn’t quite your thing, a lever is on the right side of the archway. If you take your party up to it, they can roll Perception checks, and thus reveal a lever. If you want to, you can roll a Sleight of Hand check, and attempt to picklock the lever. Doing so will open the archway for you, without having to solve the moon puzzle discs. However, you will not be awarded experience for your efforts, but the door will still open.
And there you have it, you now know how to solve the Defiled Temple Puzzle in Baldur’s Gate 3.
