Plaque Puzzle and Sharran Sanctuary Guide in BG3

If you are stumbling around the Shadowlands or are doing the Lifting the Curse quest after the Hide and Seek mission, you will stumble upon a statue with three plaques. If you can solve the plaque puzzle, you will enter the Sharran Sanctuary and have some extra things to do. Here’s a guide on solving the Plaque Puzzle in BG3 and the riddles in the Sharran Sanctuary in Baldur’s Gate 3.

Solving the Plaque Puzzle in BG3

Here is the order you need to press the Plaques in to solve the Plaque Puzzle in Baldur’s Gate 3’s second act.

To solve the Plaque Puzzle in BG3, you need at least someone in your party to pass a perception check for each of the plaques. Once all three are passed, you’ll begin reading a bunch of disconnected phrases and letters. Yet, if you press them in the right order, you will reveal they are full sentences.

To do this, you need to do the following:

  1. Press the north plaque.
  2. The west plaque.
  3. The eastern plaque.

You can take a look at the image above, for example, and see how the order goes. Once you succeed, you’ll open a secret door at the statue’s rear. You will have completed the Plaque Puzzle in BG3, and can enter the Sharran Sanctuary.

(1 of 2) You need to make checks with the statues to get access to the final room of the Sharran Sanctuary.

You need to make checks with the statues to get access to the final room of the Sharran Sanctuary. (left), Here are the rewards you can get if you offer blood to the Sharran Sanctuary altar. (right)

Okay, once inside, you will find that the Shadow Curse does not reach this holy place. As you walk down the stairs, you will come across a few more Shar statues. These statues require you to make checks, typically regarding Charisma and Intelligence checks. If you pass them, you are allowed entry into the final room.

Either way, once you’re through speaking to the statues, you can enter the final room. If you interact with the altar, you can make two choices. Steal the "Ritual Dagger of Shar" iconRitual Dagger of Shar, or make a sacrifice to Shar. If you choose the sacrifice option, spilling a small amount of blood in the bowl will award you with the following items:

  1. Scroll of Revivify
  2. Scroll of "Blight" iconBlight
  3. Potion of Angelic Reprieve
  4. Elixir of !Necrotic Resistance

If you steal the dagger, then you have guards to fight off…

However, if you so choose to steal the blade, you will instead spawn guards to fight off. There are three enemies with around 70 HP each, some annoying AOE acid skills, and some heavy-hitting melee swings, so be careful fighting them. The worst bit is that you can’t seem to steal the dagger either, as it is locked to animation with the Altar, and the guards don’t drop loot either. So, we strongly recommend spilling some of your blood in your hand, getting the goods, and walking away.

And there you have it, you now know how to complete the Plaque Puzzle and Sharran Sanctuary in Baldur’s Gate 3.

This seems to be a CORRECTED bug, because on my play through I had Shadowheart take the dagger and defeated the three guardians and Shadowheart still had the Ritual Dagger of Shar.

I just wanted to let you know, I chose to not steal the dagger first, collected all rewards (as you stated) then clicked on the statue to talk again and chose to steal the dagger, the spawn happened, we beat it and I got to also keep the dagger (as well as already having everything else).

Dagger is called Ritual Dagger of Shar 3-9 damage, 1D4 +1 piercing damage, 1D4 Necrotic Damage , weapon enchantment +1

I appreciate both your appeasement of Shar and Selune. Interesting it lets you steal the dagger after the choice. Also, we don't mind Shadowheart getting upset from time to time here :P

I will say...Shadowheart disapproved - but I'm ok with that lol
