The !Sorcerer’s Vault is a subregion of the !Sorcerer’s Sundries store in the Lower City of Baldur’s Gate 3. If you begin exploring Tower area when prompted with the Nightsong Quiz, you will find a whole new area and puzzle to solve. Then, if you click on the Weave buttons, you may get transported to a secret magical vault with many puzzles to discover. Here’s a closer look at the !Sorcerer’s Vault Puzzle in Baldur’s Gate 3, featuring the Genie Lamp, since that’s a little tricky to escape it too.
Exploring the Sorcerer’s Vault in Baldur’s Gate 3¶
Once you enter the Ramazath’s Tower via the Nightsong puzzle, you can explore a bit of the tower by jumping down the magical floating furniture pieces. Once you reach the floor below, you can visit a Weave button on the southern side of the tower This will take you to the !Sorcerer’s Vault. If you clock on the one towards the Northwest of the Tower, you will get the Arcane Barrier Puzzle containing the Markoheshkir instead.
However, there are plenty of other gubbins to get your hands on. When you get transported down to the Sorc’s Vault, you will find plenty of chests at the side of the walls. These chests have chasm between you and the platform. Butt don’t worry, the floor is invisible so you can walk across it all. Get the chests and all that. Also, don’t forget to open that box with The Red Knight’s Final Stratagem. That book sells for a lot, and when you read it, you get the Scroll of Artistry of War, which is a powerful spell. There’s many like that throughout the !Sorcerer’s Vault, and around Ramazath’s Tower too, so they are worth picking up when you see them.
As you enter the other rooms, you will find yourself with more chests and fake walls behind them for you to enter. One of the first one’s you come across is a Peculiar Lamp. The Lamp has its own puzzle, which we will cover further down the page. The other hidden room opposite contains another one of those magic books, which you can get another scroll from it.
Moving on, there’s a room with a portal in it. This room has some rare quality magic scrolls, which you can use to empower your Wizard or cast freely or sell them if you wish. If you go through the portal, it takes you back to an out-of-bounds room!Sorcerer’s Sundries. Yet, if you continue through the wooden doors, you’ll find the puzzle you are meant to find.
Sorcerer’s Vault Puzzle Walkthrough in BG3¶
Now it’s time for the proper puzzle. In the Sorcerer’s Vault. First, be aware that every single one of these rooms has traps. Make sure you move slowly and roll those perception checks to find and get them disarmed. There’s a mixture of gases, projectiles and other magic nonsense to come that can hurt you if you are not careful, especially since there are a lot of enclosed spaces.
Okay, with that said. The main !Sorcerer’s Vault Puzzle requires players to open the Elminster door. This door is immune to being lock-picked, or taking damage. It means there’s a puzzle to be had!
If you do not have access to this spell, you will need to complete the puzzle as normal to do so, you need to do the following:
- Go through the Silverhand door:
- Evocation Door
- Wish Door
- Pull the lever at the back (be mindful of the pressure plate and gargoyle head trap)
Once that’s done, you can return to the main puzzle start room with the name of the famous wizards and go to the Elminster door. You should find a light hovering over the door now, and you can open the door. Don’t forget to visit the Karsas rooms, as there’s another one of those powerful and expensive books you can read and sell on later. You get the Dethrone Spell Scroll for your troubles.
Once you’re inside the Elminster room, there are a few Gilded Chests for you to grab. These normally contain a mixture of elixirs and potions, some gold. Yet the main reward is the book, The Tharchiate Codex. It is a book that contains details about the Necromancy of Thay, and another death magic conversations.
Be warned this book will curse you, lowering your Constitution by 5. However, if you can lift the curse, typically done by the Remove Curse spell that Wizards can learn from scrolls, or via a Cleric spell you can learn, then you can remove it. If you do that, you get 20 temporary hit points after every Long Rest as the curse becomes a blessing. If you have the Necromancy of Thay, and the character who has possession of that book can read the Codex, and then read the Necromancy of Thay. They can now attempt to read the final page of the Thay, and get another final check to make. If successful, you get to summon several undead creatures as a brand new spell, courtesy of the Necromancy of Thay and the Tharchiate Codex. So, bring the character with the Necromancy of Thay with you, and go from there.
We missed this the first time, thanks to a certain Act 3 plotline involving a random party member, who just so happened to be carrying the Thay book with them. But, thanks to Nathuel 83 on Reddit, we are aware of this cool niche for those who still have the book on them.
Sorcerer’s Vault Perculiar Lamp Puzzle¶
Okay, now it’s time to solve the Peculiar Lamp puzzle in the !Sorcerer’s Vault. If you have one character interact with the lamp, they will be immediately sucked into the lamp. The genie inside will thank you for your service, as it now means he can escape. However, the character that touched the lamp is trapped under the same fight as the genie and cannot escape, unless someone else touches the lamp.
Once the genie escapes, he will likely stumble into the rest of your party. If you choose to fight it, it has around 200 HP, but it’s not a big threat.
However, there is a way you can avoid getting stuck inside the lamp. If you have any Smokebarrel Satchels on you, or some other form of explosive, poison, gas, acid, or spell that can deal friendly fire damage, you are free to blow yourself up inside the lamp. Once your character is dead, have the party escape the !Sorcerer’s Vault, and then go to camp. Once at the Camp, have Withers to resurrect them, and they should be able to escape the Peculiar Lamp Puzzle that way.
One of our readers suggested using the Mephit Scroll you get from inside the lamp. Pick it up, and send it your allies on the outside. They can use it and interact with it using the Mephit, and its the Mephit trapped inside for an eternity. It likely means other summons work too, including Mage Hand, since Mage Hand can interact with items, and thats a cantrip.
There could be another way out of the Peculiar Lamp where you don’t need to blow the lamp up, but we were not able to discover it.
With that said, you will have now completed the !Sorcerer’s Vault puzzles in Baldur’s Gate 3, and got all the cool items and rewards for doing so. Good luck in Act 3, using your new founds scrolls, powers, and rewards!

You can just summon scratch or us and then de summon them
There is a summon mephit scroll inside the lamp. Give it to a party member outside the lamp have them summon it and let the summon try to move the lamp. This will make the summon switch with the player inside the lamp and free yourself. I feel bad for the little bugger but hey at least there is plenty of booze.
Honestly gonna test today to see if mage hand can do it.
I feel so silly not using that scroll now after being a mega mind and using the invisibility potion for the arcane barrier part of the tower... I blame it on all the shinies and playing the Dark Urge. Blowing a genie lamp up on the inside is more RP-friendly :D.
