Evil wizards are known throughout the world of wizardry, with some calling them Dark Wizards, just like the infamous Voldemort. If, for some reason, you want to be a bad wizard or witch, and do your best Riddle impressions, then perhaps you are interested in finding out if you can be evil in Hogwarts Legacy? If you want to be evil, chaotic or a villain in Hogwarts Legacy, you’ll be pleased to know you somewhat can.
Can You Be Evil In Hogwarts Legacy?¶
Before we go any further, there are thing you can do that makes your character appear evil in Hogwarts Legacy. However, there is no actual morality or evil identity in the game. So, if you want to be a good or bad wizard or witch, then the fantasy is in the game to allow you to do that.
From what we’ve found, there are two main ways to be bad, evil, or chaotic in Hogwarts Legacy
- Dark Arts spells
- Dialogue options
Can You Be Evil?: Dark Art Spells¶
In the case for being a dark wizard, or becoming evil in Hogwarts Legacy, you can get unforgivable spells. These spells typically appear through a particular quest line, and you gradually get them throughout the game. We have marked below in a spoiler box to keep that hidden in case you care about even the most minor spoilers.

You can get the unforgivable spells as you progress through the Sebastian companion storyline. The Sebastian quest line awards three spells, Crucio, Imperio, and Avada Kedavra. The first two unlock via the “In The Shadow Of Time” and “In The Shadow Of Study” quests. Meanwhile, Avada Kedavra is a final unforgivable spell at around level 25, unlocking via the “In The Shadow Of The Relic”. You can use these spells in your combat encounters, or even use them in the wizard duels feature.
In addition, when using evil spells in Hogwarts Legacy, friendly NPCs may cower at the spells you are using. This is a reflection that you’re using the Dark Arts, and so, reflect the power you are wielding in the face of other students too afraid to use it.
Can You Be Bad in Hogwarts Legacy? Dialogue and Morality Choices¶
As for other more chaotic, bad, or evil options, you will get story options that reflect role play behavior. Take one of the early game quests, for example. Professor Sharp’s potion class will teach you how to make potions. However, you can assist another student, Garreth, in making a spectacular potion. But, to assist him, you must steal something and help Garreth make it. Alternatively, you can refuse the proposition and leave him to it. While it doesn’t necessarily mean much, you will get different dialogue options in the cutscene. The cut scenes will reflect that you are indeed being a naughty kid, or watching the madness unfold knowing you have a clean conscious. It’s not exactly an evil or good thing to do, but, at least you know you can actually role play as a bad or good character in some missions.
You also need to know that the main storyline has multiple endings. The different versions of events you get are based on your moral choices. We won’t spoil it for you, but, there is one option that is very much morally questionable, and going down the path can certainly be inferred as evil. If you’re interested, you can check out the multiple endings explained page and find out what the differences are between the endings.
And there you have it, you now know if you can be evil in Hogwarts Legacy. If you want to be a bad kid, good kid, or evil kid, you know now there are routes available for you. But be aware there’s not a proper evil or morality system in place outside of a few dialogue options and interactions here or there.
