Before the likes of Professor Flitwick teaching Hogwarts Students Charms Class, there was Professor Ronen. Charms are a required subject for all students of Hogwarts in their first five years, ending in the O.W.L. (Ordinary Wizarding Level) exams. Should students pass this, they could go on to N.E.W.T. (Nastily Exhausting Wizarding Test) level-Charm lessons. Lore aside, Charms are a core part of a Wizards and Witches magical vocabulary, so let’s get straight into what they need to know about Charms Class.
Charms Class in Hogwarts Legacy¶
Professor Abraham Ronen, an excentric Charms Master and a previous student of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, teaches Charms Classes. While the irony of a Charms master being charming isn’t lost on us, we’re for one of our first-ever lessons at Hogwarts. Let’s get into everything Witches and Wizards need to know about Charms Class, alongside learning the summoning Spell, Accio.
Witches and Wizards can find The Charms classroom in the Astronomy Wing of Hogwarts towards the top of the spiraling stairway. Once they enter, fellow student Natsai Onai introduces herself. She can also be a future companion should Witches and Wizards choose to do so later in the game.
Professor Ronen wastes no time making an energetic entrance, throwing students onto pages five through seven of their textbooks and asking the difference between the incantations of the Colour Change and Growth Charms. After magically pulling away our protagonist’s book and stating it’s too late to study, Professor Ronen lightens the mood with some light humor about the summer months before getting down to business. Wizards and Witches are then ordered to pair up for a review of their magic capabilities, where we learn one of our first Spells, Accio. For those who chose this before heading over to Defense From the Dark Arts Class, the Spell Learning mini-game is quite fun.
The L-Stick represents a Wizards or Witches wand movement, with the face buttons representing specific movements and moments within the Spell needed to execute it properly. With Accio, move the L-Stick upwards, then downwards while hitting the X or A button when prompted.
How to Play Summoner’s Court¶
Once Accio has been learned, Professor Ronen will take his class outside to participate in Summoner’s Court. In this Mini-Game, players must use Accio to pull the medicine balls as close as possible to the edge of the court without falling off. The closer they get, the bigger the score (up to 50 points). Use RT / R2 alongside the assigned button to use Accio on a targeted ball to pull it towards our protagonist. The trick is releasing the trigger at the last minute to score as many points as possible. It’s a typical easy-to-learn, tricky-to-master kind of game.
Once a practice round has concluded, Natsai Onai faces off in a head-to-head game of Summoners Court, which also includes moving objects to throw players off. Don’t worry if a ball gets stuck behind a moving object while playing, just keep the spell up, and the ball will continue to move once the obstruction shifts. It also doesn’t matter if players win or lose as long as they complete the round of Summoners Court. This class ends with a tip-off from Professor Ronen that he’ll be in touch with some assignments.
