This page offers a guide on how to complete the Troll Control quest in Hogwarts Legacy. During this quest, you’ll be required to fight the Infamous Foe, Alexandra’s Troll in Brocburrow.
How to Start Troll Control¶
This quest can be started by heading over to Brocburrow in the eastern parts of Hogwarts Valley. Here, you’ll need to speak to Alexandra Ricketts. She’ll tell you about her pet Troll. Unfortunately, the troll isn’t serving its intended purpose as hamlet security, so it’s up to you to deal with it.
You’ll find Alexandra’s Troll just up a hill south from the hamlet. It is immediately aggressive and hostile, so clearly Alexandra’s training hasn’t worked!
How to Defeat Alexandra’s Troll¶
Alexandra’s Troll, though an Infamous Foe, isn’t all that different from your typical troll, except for the fact that it has a fair bit more HP at around 24k HP. Now if you’ve learned the Unforgivable Spell Avada Kedavra, then you’ll be able to immediately one-shot it and save yourself the hassle. Head over to our guide on how to learn the killing curse for more information.
However, if you don’t know Avada Kedavra, then you’ll need to face this troll head on. If you know Imperio, its great here for doing extra damage whilst also giving you time to breathe when it stops attacking you briefly. But if you’re completely against using the Unforgivable Curses, then you’ll be in for a longer fight. Diffindo, Confringo and Bombarda are all great options
Like any other troll, it’ll throw rocks at you and charge at you, swinging his club several times in hopes of catching you out. If he throws boulders, you can use Protego to protect yourself and throw a Stupefy in retaliation. Or, if you’ve got quick reflexes, you could even use his own boulders back at him! This can be tricky to do if you’re in close proximity so it’s good to keep your distance.
The troll won’t always remain at distance though and will frequently use his charge attack to close in on you. Make sure to dodge out of the way of these charges and take the opportunity to hit him with spells from behind as this does extra damage. He’ll often follow up these charging attacks by immediately swinging his club three times. The swing is particularly painful so ensure you dodge it perfectly - it can sometimes be a bit tricky to anticipate the range of it.
As with most boss arenas, you’ll also be able to use rocks and other throwable objects from around the arena. These can also be used to interrupt his club attacks so it’s definitely worth maneuvering around the arena so you can make the most of these throwable objects.
Once you’ve finished Alexandra’s Troll off, return to Alexandra in Brocburrow and tell her the news to finish the quest. She’ll also give you the option of a new moniker for yourself: Troll Slayer, Troll Vanquisher or Troll Whisperer. It doesn’t matter which you choose, but you’ll get the satisfaction of choosing your cool new title!
