You may have bested Imelda Reyes on the Quidditch Pitch, but more courses await, and with an upgraded broom you may just have what it takes to upset Imelda there, too. This page will walk you through the side quest Sweeping the Competition in Hogwarts Legacy.
How to Start Sweeping the Competition in Hogwarts Legacy¶
After you complete the side quest Flight Test, Albie Weekes will ask for time to concoct the broom upgrade he promised. This coincides with main quest progress, and after you complete Percival Rackham’s Trial (and enough time has passed) you should get an Owl Post from Albie Weekes, informing you that the upgrade is done. To get the broom moving on this quest, visit Spintwitches and Sporting Needs in Hogsmeade and talk to Albie Weekes, from whom you can now buy a broom upgrade for 1,000.
Buy the upgrade and Albie Weekes will inform you of another course Imelda Reyes conquered down south in Irondale, and with this new broom upgrade you have a good shot at besting her score. The Irondale course is far south of Hogwarts, northeast of the helmet of Irondale (with a Floo Flame of the same name), southwest of the Northern South Sea Bog Floo Flame. It’s quite a flight by broom, so definitely use Floo Flames if you have them.
How to Win the Broom Racing Event at Irondale¶
Make your way to the cliffs northeast of Irondale where you’ll find Imelda, who is as contemptuous and confident as ever. She needs strong competition to motivate her, so she’s a bit at odds with your efforts - desirous of a new mountain to climb, but outwardly disdainful of your skills. Accept her challenge and begin the race.
The core mechanics of this race are identical to the race at the Quidditch Pitch; you don’t need to display utter mastery of this race, you merely need to finish the race faster than Imelda, who sits in a rather pedestrian 5th place, with a time of 2:26:22. Like last time, your goal is to fly through checkpoint rings (twenty in total) as quickly as possible. Missing a ring will penalize you 3 seconds, but otherwise won’t affect your completion of the race. In between each checkpoint ring are a line of four yellow orbs, which fill your boost meter / and increase your speed - achieving a fast time, then, is just a matter of speeding through the checkpoint rings without missing any, while trying to run into as many boost orbs as possible. This is, perhaps, easier said than done, but this race course is particularly generous, with a good deal of space between checkpoint rings, with few obstacles or quick turns required. That being the case, you should be able to just hold down / and / and focus on hitting boost orbs and passing through checkpoint rings. A time under 2:00 is somewhat difficult, but besting Imelda’s 2:26:22 shouldn’t be all that difficult if you have a decent grasp on flight fundamentals.
Best Imelda’s time, then talk to the Slytherin girl, who complains about a less adept member of her own house and challenges you to race at another, as of yet unavailable course. Return to Albie Weekes to set the next upgrade in motion and finish the quest.
