There’s quite a lot to see and do in Hogwarts Legacy, not the least of which are the game’s abundant side quests. These will regularly unlock as you advance the main questline, but they often appear with little fanfare - sometimes a character will make a comment that hints at a side quest, but most of the time there’s no warning whatsoever. Instead of roaming the school and its surrounding environs hoping to stumble upon newly unlocked side quests, this page will discuss easier ways to find side quests in Hogwarts Legacy.
How to Find Side Quests in Hogwarts Legacy¶
The most obvious, tedious and time-consuming way to find any side quests that may have unlocked is to simply walk around and hope you stumble onto them. If you get near the starting point of a side quest, there’s a good chance it’ll unlock. In this case, even if you don’t notice it while you’re exploring, the side quest will appear in the Quests log of your Wizard’s Field Guide. Side quests can be noted by the silver shields and title background, as opposed to the gold shield and background that main quests possess. Of course, having to wander around such a large area in search of side quests to complete at regular intervals will quickly get tiresome. Fortunately there’s a better way.
If you open up the Map section of the Wizard’s Field Guide and go to the “World Map” subsection you can hover over larger points of interest, including Hogwarts itself. On this screen you’ll find a list of “Available Quests” in the area, which doesn’t do much to tell you where these quests are, but at least it confirms that there are, in fact, quests you can do. It’s worth noting these available quests will appear on the World Map even if you haven’t gotten close enough to properly start them, meaning they’ll appear here, but not in your Quests log. Weird.
To narrow things down, you can check out the “Hogwarts Map” section, where you’ll see flags marking the various regions of Hogwarts. Clicking on one of these flags will zoom in on that region and reveal the individual Floo Flame waypoints… as well as any side quests available in that section of Hogwarts. When there are side quests available, the flags marking the areas of Hogwarts will be black, when there aren’t any quests, they’ll be white. If you see any black flags, it’s a good idea to zoom in and see what quests are there. Unlike on the “World Map”, you can actually track these side quests from here, making it a relatively trivial matter to subsequently seek them out.
While a bit unintuitive and scattered throughout your Wizard’s Field Guide, the tools are there to make it easy to find side quests, if you know where to look.
