This page details how to beat the Pensieve Guardian during Percival Rackham’s Trial in Hogwarts Legacy. The Pensieve Guardian is a big boss fight near the end of Percival Rackham’s Trial.
Percival Rackham’s Trial: Boss Fight¶
This is the first time that you’ll encounter a Pensieve Guardian - it’s essentially a beefed up Pensieve Protector with a ton more health. Though it has a huge HP bar, it doesn’t have many attack moves so you’ll be able to learn its attack patterns quickly and use this to your advantage. That being said, if you do get caught out by any of his attacks, you’re gonna get dealt a ton of damage and have to pop a Wiggenweld Potion to avoid getting defeated the next time you take damage.
Before you head into the fight, ensure you have some strong offensive spells on your spell bar - Expelliarmus, Incendio, Confringo and Diffindo are all great options. There’s no point trying to use Levioso or Depulso as he won’t budge! Along with these offensive spells, you’ll want to spam basic attack and build up your combo bar so you can use Ancient Magic Attacks. It can be hard to see the Ancient Magic symbol above his head if you’re super close to him so make sure to occasionally back up and use Ancient Magic whenever it comes up.
Head over to our dedicated spell walkthrough pages for information on how to unlock these spells:
Pensieve Guardian Leg Slam Attack¶
The first attack you’ll need to learn to deal with is its huge foot stomp attack. During this attack, the Guardian will lift up its leg and slam it down, causing a huge linear AoE. You’ll need to dodge these every time as you can’t use protego to block it. You’ll also need to be precise with your dodge as you may get caught in the AoE. You’ll get plenty of visual notice that this attack is about to occur by either watching for red symbols around your head or keeping an eye on when the Guardian lifts up his big leg.
Pensieve Guardian Ball of Magic Attack¶
In addition to his leg slam, the Guardian will also conjure up a huge ball of non-descript magic and throw it at you. During this conjuration, you can get in a few attacks but make sure to either dodge at the last minute or use protego to block it. If you use protego it can be a good opportunity to use Stupefy. Dodging can be a bit tricky as well as if you don’t do it at the exact right moment you’ll get hit by a ton of damage.
Other than these two moves, the biggest problem you’ll face is its huge HP and your tiny HP bar. If you get caught out then you’ll almost get wiped, whilst you’ll have to throw piddly spells at it for ages to deal enough damage to defeat him. This fight is all about endurance and dexterity, making sure to dodge his limited attacks whilst getting in your offensive spells.
