Shortly after taking your flight tutorial in the main quest Flying Class, you’ll be prompted to acquire your own broom. Hogwarts, for all its excesses, apparently refuses to loan out brooms for anything other than flying classes. Trudging around on foot may suffice, for now, but the sheer amount of time you’ll save by flying (not to mentions the ease of accessing elevated areas) makes buying a broom a top priority. This page will cover how to buy a broom in Hogwarts Legacy and following that, how to complete the Broom Racing Event at the Quidditch pitch.
How to Start Flight Test in Hogwarts Legacy¶
This quest will begin immediately after you complete Flying Class, but to properly advance it you’ll need to visit Spintwitches Sporting Needs in Hogsmeade and talk to the proprietor, Albie Weekes. He’s got quite a lot to say about brooms, of course. Bit of a fanatic, frankly. In order to get to the met of this quest you’ll need to buy a broom from him, and while you’ll get multiple choices, the difference is mostly cosmetic. Whatever you pick will set you back 600.
After you’ve acquired your very own broom (excite!), Albie will attempt to put you to work, promising broom upgrades if you compete in some time trials. It’s all just a contrived way to get you to attempt some broom races, really.
How to Win the Broom Racing Event at the Quidditch Pitch¶
When you’re ready to help Albie out and attempt this race, exit his shop, leave the boundaries of Hogsmeade, and summon your new broom by pressing + / + , then fly southwest to the Quidditch pitch and talk to Imelda, a confrontational Syltherin girl who is dubious of your competence by also keen to see you attempt to best her. Agree to fly and you’ll soon start the race.
This Broom Racing Event isn’t all that difficult (on normal difficulty, anyways, your mileage may vary), your only objective is to make it to the end in under 2:20:53. Passing through checkpoint rings is ideal, but ultimately optional, as missing a ring will penalize you -3 seconds. Other than that, you can run into yellow orbs for a speed boost - there are usually three between each checkpoint ring.
As long as you don’t go insanely off course and keep accelerating ( / ) it should be difficult to lose the race. If you for some reason need to go faster than normal flight will take you, you can also hold / to boost yourself, but you have a recharging stamina meter that limits your ability to abuse this.
Complete the race in under the time limit and a frustrated Imelda will challenge you to more races. A task for another time. Return to Albie to complete the quest.
