By
Ben Chard

Metaphor: ReFantazio has plenty of side content for you to get stuck into, but perhaps the most important of them all are raising the Bonds of your Followers. There are 14 to seek out and while some are simple to unlock, others will require you to do a bit more legwork. Brigitta is one such character who will require you to spend some time on your Royal Vitrues. Keep reading to learn how to rank her up and more about her abilities and Archetypes.

Brigitta’s Bond will unlock the Merchant Archetype in Metaphor: ReFantazio.

Unlocking the Brigitta Follower Bond

Although technically available on the very first free day, you’ll have to do a bit of work first to unlock the quest that unlocks Brigitta’s Bond. You’ll find her outside her shop on Sunlumeo Street and, upon speaking to her, you’ll discover that you need Wisdom Rank 2 to go any further. This is not as tough as it may seem though, as you can achieve this over the course of a single free day.

To begin with, go ahead and accept the Help the Hushed Honeybee Side Quest and then use the bench near Brigitta to increase your Wisdom. In your evening time slot, complete the Hushed Honeybee quest and then, when you turn it in the next morning, you’ll achieve Wisdom Rank 2, allowing you to speak to Brigitta.

You’ll accept the A Bullish Embargo quest that involves you traveling to the Belega Corridor, a difficult dungeon for this stage of the game and entirely doable, just make sure to avoid angering the Goborns by using a Mage or Healer in your party and you should be fine, even if the boss may take some trial and error. Once the quest is complete, return to Brigitta to unlock her Bond (along with some other goodies).

Brigitta’s Bond will unlock the Merchant Archetype, an interesting one that involves using Gold to attack your enemies with, along with some very useful passives. Beyond that, she has some useful abilities such as granting you discounts at all shops, increasing the exchange rate of MAG to Reeves, and unlocking some truly powerful Igniters in her shop.

Brigitta Rank up Events and Abilities

There is a total of eight Rank Up events for Brigitta and all of them are entirely optional, including the first one which requires Wisdom Rank 2. The table below will detail how to get each Rank for Brigitta and the ability it unlocks.

Rank Conditions Abilities
1 Complete the A Bullish Embargo Side Quest from 6/12. Requires Wisdom Rank 2 Merchant Archetype, Proof of Membership (Can now use the Lycaon Magic Association Igniter Shop in Grand Trad)
2 Speak to Brigitta during a free day at night following the Grand Cathedral story dungeon Merchant Enlightenment (decreases MAG cost to study)
3 Speak to Brigitta during a free day at night from 6/29 Scion’s Skill (Merchant Skill Inheritance Slots to 2), Merchant’s Rate (improves the exchange rate at the MAG Exchange)
4 Speak to Brigitta during a free day at night from 7/5 Scion’s Merit (Merchant Skill Inheritance Slots to 3), Merchant’s Finest (increases items sold at her shop)
5 Speak to Brigitta during a free day at night (after waiting a full free day first). Requires Courage Rank 3 Guild Discount (get discounts at weapon, armor, and igniter shops)
6 Speak to Brigitta during a free day at night (after waiting a full free day first) Merchant Veneration (significantly decreases MAG cost to study), Merchant’s Markdown (significantly increases exchange rate at the MAG exchange)
7 Speak to Brigitta during a free day at night from 8/19. Requires Courage Rank 4 Igniter Connoisseur (adds rare items to her shop), Supply Crate (occasionally sends a crate with 15,000 Reeve at the start of a day)
8 Speak to Brigitta during a free day at night from 9/26 Merchant Archetype: Elite (Unlocks Tycoon), Scion’s Essence (Merchant Skill Inheritance Slots to 4)

All of Brigitta’s rank up events take place at night, which means if you’re visiting a labyrinth during the day, you’re not going to be able to raise her rank for that free day. There are no further quests to complete after her opening ones but there you do get gated by the story a few times and you will have to ensure you work on your Courage Royal Virtue, as you’ll need Rank 3 for the fifth rank and Rank 4 for the penultimate rank. When it comes to prioritizing, don’t neglect her Bond as you get some great abilities. Although MAG is a precious resource, you can gain some serious Reeve with her exchange abilities, especially if you use it on a day with poor weather. Likewise, starting a free day with 15,000 Reeve for nothing is always a welcome boon. Finally, her Rank 7 ability adds some incredibly Igniters to her shop, just a shame they cost so much!

Rank 1 Ability - Merchant Archetype and Proof of Membership

Unlocking this early on is a great idea, as there are some very useful abilities to grab from this Archetype. Gold Attack (and it’s upgrade in the Elite Archetype) are skills that remain useful throughout the adventure as not only is the damage considered Almighty (which can’t be resisted), it also has a high Critical Rate. Lucky Find is also a fantastic passive to learn, even if you don’t stay on the Merchant Archetype, inherit it on one of your characters and keep it equipped, an additional 25% drop rate from battles is nothing to be scoffed at.

With the Proof of Membership ability, you’ll finally get access to the Lycaon Magic Association Igniter shop in Grand Trade, these are accessories that grant you a spell when equipped. This starts off as just the low level elemental spells but will soon stock some very potent Igniters as you progress Brigitta’s Bond, just beware that everything in this shop is expensive so look to shop on a Bargain day.

Rank 2 Ability - Merchant Enlightenment

Merchant Enlightenment works the same as the other Enlightenment abilities by decreasing the cost of MAG needed to study any of the Merchant Archetypes. There are only two Archetypes in this tree but many other Archetypes do require you to dip in (including Heimsay’s exclusive Archetype at the end of the adventure) and studying these Archetypes are costly.

Rank 3 Abilities - Scion’s Skill and Merchant’s Rate

Scion’s Skill is the first in the series of Scion abilities that grant you an extra Inheritance Slot. This is very useful for the Merchant Archetypes as a lot of their skills are passive based so if you’re going to spend time on the Archetype, consider giving them more utility.

Merchant’s Rise will see the exchange rate at the MAG exchange increase and stacks with the increased rate on days with poor weather. While it’s generally a better idea to use your MAG for your Archetypes, if you’re in desperate need of buying that shiny new sword, you can make some serious cash using this method.

Rank 4 Abilities - Scion’s Merit and Merchant’s Finest

The second in the Scion’s series of abilities, this one will give you three Skill Inheritance slots for any Merchant Archetype. You can now add some more useful skills to your Merchant, perhaps giving them a healing spell to increase their effectiveness as a support Archetype.

Merchant’s Finest will increase the stock at the Lycaon Magic Association Igniter shops, adding even more powerful Igniters for you to purchase. As always, these continue to be very expensive so consider waiting until Brigitta’s next rank up or when there’s a Bargain day.

(1 of 2) Brigitta’s final stock update will have some truly expensive Igniters available to purchase.

Rank 5 Ability - Guild Discount

This is a very useful ability, granting you a 20% discount on goods at any weapon, armor, and Igniter store throughout the entire kingdom. As you progress in the later stages of the adventure, equipment starts to get very expensive so having this permanent discount is very welcome.

Rank 6 Abilities - Merchant Veneration and Merchant’s Markdown

Merchant Veneration is the upgrade to Merchant Enlightenment, further decreasing the cost of MAG to study these Archetypes, reducing the base Archetype to just under 2,000. As mentioned above, many other Archetypes from different Trees require some investment here, so it’s great to offset some of that cost.

Merchant’s Markdown is the upgrade to Merchant’s Rate which will further increase the exchange rate at the MAG exchange. If you visit one on a day with poor weather, you can sometimes see the exchange rate as high as 1 = 9.0, this is a significant sum and can be used to acquire vast sums of money whenever the need arises.

Rank 7 Abilities - Igniter Connoisseur and Supply Crate

Igniter Connoisseur will add the final selection of Igniters to her shop, these are very powerful accessories that can be gamechanging, but the very best ones require a massive investment costing hundreds of thousands of Reeve to purchase. This is more likely to be something you make use of on New Game+ unless you spend a lot of time grinding Reeve.

Supply Crate is a fantastic ability that gives Briggita a chance to message you at the start of a day to deliver a package with 15,000 Reeve. This happens quite frequently but it does share the same event space with Bardon’s Care Package Ability. Still, with both abilities at your disposal, you’re going to either get cash or useful items at the start of a day.

Rank 8 Abilities - Merchant Archetype: Elite and Scion’s Essence

The ultimate form of the Merchant, the Tycoon, shares a similar theme with its base Archetype with some great new additions. The Luckier Find passive increases the chance of finding rare items by 20% and you get access to a better, more expensive Gold attack, but it’s the bottom two passives that require your attention. Critical Trade doubles the chance of dealing a critical hit to an enemy and is useful on almost any Archetype that deals damage while Almighty Boost will see an increase in 20%, a passive that’s very useful for the protagonist’s exclusive Archetype.

Scion’s Essence is the final Scion skill that increases your Skill Inheritance Slots. With four slots at your disposal, you can really customize the Merchant to be the ultimate Almighty damage dealer.

There you have it; all of Brigitta’s Bonds and Abilities in Metaphor: ReFantazio. She gains access to some great quality of life abilities, such as Supply Crate and her Merchant Archetypes have access to some truly fantastic passives you’ll want to get as soon as possible.
