Metaphor: ReFantazio

Faker Archetype

By
Echo Apsey

The Faker is another of the basic Archetypes in Metaphor: ReFantazio. It is one of the most fragile Archetypes. However, it makes this up by exploiting weaknesses, nerfing its opponents’ strength and debuffing them. It is weak to both Piercing and Wind damage. Its vulnerability also means it isn’t resistant to anything.

Investing in the Faker will allow you to unlock its advanced form: the Trickster. The Faker Archetype is one of the hardest to use Archetypes in the game, due to its specialized Skills and many weaknesses.

Faker Skills

The Faker has access to 7 different Skills:

  • Dodge - [Hero Passive] Has a chance of triggering an auto-dodge in overworld combat.
  • Faker’s Roguery - Chance of inflicting Forget on one enemy. Turn icons added or removed at random (129 MP)
  • Tarunda - Decreases one enemy’s attack for 3 turns (8 MP)
  • Sukunda - Decreases one enemy’s hit/evasion for 3 turns (8 MP)
  • Rakunda - Decreases one enemy’s defense for 3 turns (8 MP)
  • Dekaja - Removes all buff effects on all enemies (18 MP)
  • Makarakarn - Raises a barrier that repels one elemental attack for one ally (40 MP)

Out of all of these Skills most are support or passive ones, which all help build the Faker as a huge debilitator. The Archetype is built for nerfing your opponent’s strength and all of these skills can really stack up in the middle of an extended fight. The one damage-based skill Faker’s Roguery is a huge risk, costing almost your entire MP pool.

However, it can inflict Forget - one of the most powerful status ailments. If you are lucky it can also add a ton of turns for you and your team and remove enemy turns - but it could also do the opposite. So, you need to weigh up whether using this skill is worth it.

Faker Synthesis Skills

The Faker has access to five different Synthesis Skills:

  • Matarunda - Required skill: Tarunda. Decreases all enemies’ attack for 3 turns (18 MP) [Allies needed: Knight, Healer, or Commander Lineages]
  • Marakunda - Required skill: Rakunda. Decreases all enemies’ defense for 3 turns (18 MP) [Allies needed: Knight, Healer, or Commander Lineages]
  • Masukunda - Required skill: Sukunda. Decreases all enemies’ hit/evasion for 3 turns. (18 MP) [Allies needed: Knight, Healer, or Commander Lineages]
  • Debilitate - Decreases one enemy’s attack/defence/hit/evasion for 3 turns (24 MP) [Allies needed: First Ally - Thief, Faker or Merchant Lineages & Second Ally - Thief, Faker, or Merchant Lineages]
  • Free Juggling - Deals weak physical Almighty damage to all enemies without consuming MP. (0 MP) [Allies needed: Gunner, Faker, or Summoner Lineages]

The main Skills here act as more powerful versions of the base Skills, affecting all allies. Of course, they are much more costly when it comes to MP. The free Almighty damage from Free Juggling is also decent, but you will want to focus on the other base Skills to really make the most of the Faker.
