Metaphor: ReFantazio

Weather System Explained

By
Jarrod Garripoli

Some of the mechanics in Metaphor: ReFantazio aren’t explained all too well, and they sometimes have multiple uses throughout the game. Weather may not seem like something that is important, but there are two big uses that you want to keep an eye out for during your playthrough. The first one is for the MAG Broker, and the other involves going through dungeons.

How to Tell Weather Forecast

Weather won’t really play a part until after you complete the first main story dungeon, the Grand Cathedral. Normally, when you look at the world map, you will be able to see the current weather for that day, in every area you can access on the map. However, there is a way to see the forecast for up to three days, which is by paying a specific NPC in each of the towns. The NPC will have a crystal ball icon on the map, and the fee you have to pay is a very small amount.

(1 of 5) A fortune teller will eventually unlock, who can help forecast the weather.

Weather - MAG Broker

One of the first uses of weather in the game will come from the MAG Brokers in each of the main cities. These NPCs will allow you to exchange any excess MAG you have into money, but the exchange rates will differ from day to day. When you first try to use the MAG Broker, you will get a short tutorial that the worst the weather is, the better the exchange rate. As an example, when it’s raining in Grand Trad, the more money you’ll get from trading Magla. Note that as you rank up Brigitta’s Bond, you will get even better rates.

Inclement Weather and Dungeons

The other use for weather in the game comes in the form of inclement weather (bad weather) and the various dungeons you can explore. One thing you will never really want to do is explore a dungeon when the weather is very bad (when the forecast shows it in pink). The reason you don’t want to do this is because the enemies in that dungeon will be more challenging, but the rewards you receive from them (in terms of EXP) will be greater. Also, if you strike an enemy’s weakness when the weather is bad, then you won’t receive an extra Turn Icon, so you’ll only get the same number of turns as the members in your party.
