It isn’t a RPG without stats that your characters can improve and while some games explain what those stats do well, other games don’t really explain them. Metaphor: ReFantazio does a decent job at explaining the stats for your characters, but they also leave out a few things. This page will attempt to explain each of the character’s main stats, including what’s included in the game and what’s not.
Strength¶
Strength is the measure of how much damage you deal with any type of physical attack. This includes the basic attack for each of your weapons, as well as any physical skill. There are three types of physical damage in the game, which are Slash, Pierce and Strike. Enemies can have strengths and weaknesses for all three of them, so make sure you pay attention to the damage type you’re using.
Magic¶
Magic the stat you want if you’re looking to make your elemental spells more powerful. This includes anything with Fire, Ice, Lightning, Wind, Light or Dark, which are also the main resistances for enemies. One thing you might think is increased with Magic is the power of your healing spells, but it doesn’t affect that. Healing magic only seems to be affected by the power of the weapon of the Healer.
Endurance¶
Endurance is your character’s defense, plain and simple, and includes both physical damage and magical damage. The scaling on this isn’t really big, so you would need a lot of points in it to really see a big difference. Probably just easier to equip stronger armor and go from there, instead of going too crazy with this stat.
Agility¶
Agility can be one of the most important stats in the game, as it does quite a bit. For starters, it affects your hit rate, which is something you want, as you can miss with just about any attack/skill in the game. It also affects your evasion, so the higher your Agility, the more you might make the enemy miss. If you get into a tough situation and want to escape from battle, a high Agility will allow that to happen. One more thing it can affect is your stealing chance, although there are some accessories that improve those odds.
Luck¶
Luck is the final stat on this list and the one that doesn’t get explained very well in-game. One of the only things that is said is it increases your item acquisition rate, so the higher this is, the more items you will get dropped from enemies. Of course, there are alternatives to this, as some passive skills can boost the amount of items you receive, too. Luck will also improve the chances that your physical attacks can critically hit an enemy.
Outside of the above, Luck seems to play a part in dealing with status ailments. The higher your Luck, the more often you can land ailments on enemies, especially if they are part of skills. For example, Skull Crusher from the Brawler Archetype has a chance to inflict Forget, so a higher Luck means more chances of that happening. It also seems to help in you recovering from ailments inflicted on you faster.
Which Stats to Choose?¶
Whenever you level up with your protagonist, you will have the option to allocate points into one of the five above stats. For the most part, three of the five stats can be covered up with skills from Bonds or Archetypes, as well as with buffs. For example, the Merchant Archetype has passives that increase the drop rate of items from enemies. The two most important stats here are Strength and Magic, so it pretty much comes down to which kind of build do you want for that character. Do you want to go all physical damage? Then, you will put your points into Strength, and vice versa for Magic if you want to become a mage.
