As you explore various places in Metaphor: ReFantazio, you will have to get around via a gauntlet runner. Unfortunately, this can eat up your free time, since travel by the runner isn’t very quick. However, there is a form of fast travel that unlocks in the game, which will allow you to get around much more quickly, as well as without wasting time.
Fast Travel Explained¶
Thankfully, you don’t really need to do much to unlock the fast travel feature in the game, as it’s related to the main story. After clearing the first major story dungeon, you will travel to a second town, where the party will continue their adventure. As you start to get settled in at the town, something triggers on the gauntlet runner. This will eventually unlock the fast travel mechanic, so you don’t have to actually do anything other than just play the story.
To initiate fast travel, open up the map (R1/RB), then press the same button again on the local map. This will put you on the world map, where you can select a previously visited location and teleport to it. The bad thing about the fast travel system in Metaphor is that it’s a bit limited, though. As just noted above, you can only fast travel to locations you’ve gone to prior, but it’s also limited because you can only go to towns. So, if you wish to go to an old dungeon, then you’ll still have to use the gauntlet runner.
The biggest upside to the teleportation is that it doesn’t take up any of your precious time slots. That means you can visit the other cities to work on Royal Virtues, do side quests, or even level up your Bonds/Followers. Combine this with the option to choose most locations in cities/towns, and you’ll have access to a lot of things.
